Useful Information about the Service
CHARGES FOR LOCAL SERVICE Telephone service in Brooklyn is charged for in two
ways.
Message Rate Service
The monthly rate for this service pays for all out- going local calls up to a certain number. | A charge is then made for each call over that number. No charge is made in case your call is not completed because of a "Line is busy" or "Don't answer." condition, or for any other reason. If you get a wrong number, call this to the attention of the Operator.

New York City is so large and its telephone system so complex that it has been necessary to divide die city into zones. Each call to a nearby zone counts as one call. Each call to more distant zones counts as tiro and in some few cases three calls. The Operator will be glad to tell you whether any call you wish to make |is a one-,|tivo- or three-call charge; or a card showing this information may be secured by calling the Business Office.
Our message rates provide for an overtime charge on all local calls of more than five minutes. However, we do not make this charge within the one call range unless the time is materially in excess of five minutes. At most public telephones, however, the overtime charge is made.,
Flat Rate Service
If preferred, residence service can be had ad a monthly charge which pays for all outgoing calls within Brooklyn. Calls to other points in New York City are charged for at 5c, 10c, or 15c for the initial 5 minute calling period. The Operator will be glad to tell you the charge for any call at any time; or a card showing this information may be secured by calling the Business Offive.

DISPLAYING TELEPHONE NUMBERS
It will be a convenience to those who may wish to call you, and .will help to speed service, if you will print your telephone number on stationery and elsewhere just as. you do your street address.
Although we cannot guarantee that any number will be permanent, we make no changes in numbers except when the needs of the telephone system itself make it essential to do so. When a number is changed, we give as much advance notice as possible.

Copies of these three interesting and instructive booklets 'may be obtained free by calling the Business Office (Dial 811). .
DIRECTORY AND INFORMATION SERVICES
It is important to your service that you first know the number and then that you dial it or give it to the Oper- ator accurately.
For this reason every subscriber in Brooklyn is given a directory every six months listing all Brooklyn sub- scriber's. A classified directory in which listings and advertisements appear under business headings is also furnished as a convenient shopping and service aid.
Directories are also available for Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Staten Island and suburban points.' To give these books to all Brooklyn subscribers would be an inconvenience to most subscribers and a needless ex- pense to the Company. In cases where they are required, they are furnished upon request. Otherwise it is better to get numbers from Information (Dial 411), and keep them on a personal list. We also furnish, free of charge, attractive booklets for listing telephone numbers.
-
For a free copy of this booklet, call the Business Office (Dial 811). It's a handy place to list the numbers you frequently call.
When you get a new directory, please check your own listings, and if incorrect notify the Business Office at once so that we may adjust our recorjis for the next issue and protect your service in the meantime.
Additional listings and advertising may be arranged for by calling the Business' Office.
All telephone directories are the property of the Com- pany. When lost or mutilated, the Business Office will replace them. To prevent mistakes, we ask that obsolete issues be returned when later ones are delivered.
Useful Information about the Service
FREE ADVISORY SERVICES
Telephone Service Requierenis. The telephone service requirements of subscribers change from time to time because of changes in volume of business handled, in methods of operation, in organization plans, etc. We therefore maintain a Customers' Service Bureau for the purpose of determining for our subscribers, upon request, the type and amount of telephone equipment best adapted to their current needs. This service is furnished without charge and may be secured by just calling the Business Office (Dial 811) ..
Architects' and Builders' Service. |When building or remodeling, you may arrange for conduits and con- cealed telephone wiring. A telephone engineer will assist you, without charge, in planning up-to-date arrange- ments. For information, call the Business Office (Dial 811) and ask for "Architects' and Builders' Service."
IDENTIFICATION OF EMPLOYEES
23456 - Every employee of the Telephone Com- pany authorized to install, inspect, repair or remove the Company's apparatus car- ries a metal badge showing the Company's name and his own"number. Other tele- phone employees also carry suitable identification. We ? suggest that subscribers refuse access to their premises to anyone who represents himself as from this Company, but who cannot so identify himself.
VISITS TO COMPANY BUILDINGS
We are glad to welcome telephone users at our central offices. The operation of our switchboards, the maze of wiring and cable arrangements, the delicate mach nery of our dial offices, and other features of our business, are of great interest to thousands who see them. Ask the Business Office (Dial 811) to arrange for your visit.
ATTACHMENTS TO TELEPHONES
The Company does not sanction the use of any devices except those furnished by it.
