NORWICH, N. Y.

Norwich, N. Y., "The Busiest Little City in the State of New York," is the County Seat of Chenango County, with a population of 8,268. It was settled by people from Connecticut who named their new home in memory of the home they had just left.

Chenango County is one of the most productive and prosperous agricultural counties of the State, and while Norwich serves this community, it is a diver- sified manufacturing city and a railroad division point.

It is situated on the main line of the New York, Ontario & Western, and half-way between Utica and Binghamton on the Utica Division of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western, which give excellent shipping of Norwich products through north and south connections to all points. The New York, Ontario & Western maintain large shops here. The Borden Company has its largest Ameri- can condensory, which has handled in one day as high as 265,000 pounds of raw milk.

Norwich products are as follows: Silos, hammers, milk products, pharma- ceuticals, wire goods, silk ribbons, cotton knit underwear, camp trailers, plumb- ers' cabinet woodwork, blue stone, paint, radio supplies and toilet goods. The Maydole Hammer Company has made the world's best hammer for over 75 years. The Norwich Pharmacal Company is the third largest plant of its kind in the United States, making over 5,000 different products. Unguentine, a relief for burns, enjoys an international sale.

Norwich has been the home of many famous people. Gail Borden, the inventor of the milk condensing process; David Maydole, the founder of the Maydole Hammer Co .; Dr. Alfred Bryant, personal physician of President Grover Cleveland and president of the American Medical Society; U. S. Federal Judge Geo. W. Ray is an honored resident.

Chenango Lake, with an elevation of 1,500 feet, is a very attractive summer resort and is the source of the city's water supply. The quantity is unlimited and pure. It has one of the sportiest golf courses in the country. All fraternal societies are represented here; several own very fine homes.

Norwich has good schools and just at the present time is building an addi- tion to the high school. It has churches of all denominations; well shaded and attractive streets, and a city of home owners. It has no mill or factory district; the workers live in all sections of the city.

The industrial and community activities are directed through the Norwich Chamber of Commerce, which will gladly answer all inquiries in relation to the city.
