sequently this large tract of land in the southwest part of the town was divided among a large number of persons who set- tled upon it and whose descendants in many cases now occupy it. Many necessarily had to acquire their title from the trus- tees. A record of the former division forming a book of con- siderable size, is now in the hands of private parties in the town of Babylon, and chiefly concerns that town in connection with the title to a considerable part of its territory.
The paper to which this note refers was a tax imposed on the taxpayers of the town to defray the expenses of the pur- chase .- C. R. S.]
