The anniversary exercises of the school are held on the last Sabbath of September.
The annual meeting of the school for the election of officers is held on Thursday even- ing, next preceding the first Sunday in May.
THE INFANT DEPARTMENT.
During the season of 1869, an effort was made by Mrs. Stephen R. Schuyler and Miss Anna R. Jermain, to gather an infant class. Some 15 or 20 scholars were gathered. The class met for some time in the north gallery of the old Church.
In the year 1870 an extension was added by James B. Jermain to the Chapel, for the accommodation of the Infant Department.
In the year 1872 Miss Jermain was married to the Rev. F. B. Savage, Pastor of the Pres- byterian Church of Cooperstown, N. Y., whither she removed. A flattering disease, however, soon ended in her death, which occurred . June 18th, 1875. Her remains were brought home for interment in the
60
Albany Rural Cemetery. The school at- tended her funeral. The memory of her loving, faithful and Christ-like labors is very fresh in the hearts of many parents in this community, and also in the hearts of many of her pupils-some of whom have already. come almost to years of manhood and woman- hood.
Since the death of Miss Jermain, the class has been taught by Mrs. Stephen R. Schuyler and Miss Helen Rice. The efficiency of their faithful labors may be indicated in the fact, that this department is the pride and hope of the school. From the handful which first met in the gallery of the old Church, this class has grown to the present number of one hundred and fifteen scholars.
In the new Chapel the class has very spa- cious accommodation on the gallery, which extends half the length of the building, and is separated from the other part of the school by a movable glass partition.
X.
PASTORAL VISITATION.
ORDINARY systematic visitation of the con- gregation will be made by the Pastor upon every family of the congregation at least once a year.
Families are requested to give the Pastor timely notice of sickness, affliction, death, or other circumstances in which his extraordi- nary services may be needed. Neglect so to do may be the cause of apparent neglect on his part. The Scripture directs : "Is any sick among you? Let him call for the Elders of the Church, and let them pray over him," etc .- James 5 : 14.
The Pastor earnestly hopes that inquirers for the way of salvation will be perfectly
-
62
free in making known their feelings to him, if so be that timely instruction or encourage- ment may be rendered. It is hoped, also, , that any Christian people that are in dis- tressing spiritual experiences of any kind will feel the same freedom to call upon or consult with the Pastor without reserve, at any time, at the parsonage or at any appointed place.

XI.
MARRIAGES AND FUNERALS.
I. MARRIAGES.
·When the services of the Pastor are desired at marriages, timely arrangement should be- made accordingly. Parties who come to the Parsonage for marriage are requested to bring witnesses with them. When the parties are unknown to the Pastor, an oath will be required, as authorized by the laws of this State, that, to the best of their knowledge and belief, no lawful impediment intervenes to the marriage.
2. FUNERALS.
Families are requested to make arrange- ment with the Pastor as to the time of their funerals at as early an hour as possible. Delay in this matter, and the custom of making all.
64
other arrangements before consulting the Pas- tor, may be, as has often been proved to be, the cause of much confusion and inconvenience on account of previous public engagements of the Pastor. Families are earnestly requested to avoid if possible the appointment of fune- rals on the Sabbath. It should be remem- bered that, outside of the religious service, a funeral and burial is a mechanical work, requiring the labor of men, horses, servants, etc. ; all of which is entirely out of harmony with the rest of Sabbath day. If the funeral must be held on the Sabbath, let the hour thereof be at such a time as not to interfere with any of the regularly appointed services of the day.
Either the Church or Chapel will be opened for funeral services. £ The attention of those who desire the Church or Chapel opened for funeral services, is respectfully called to the following action of the Consistory :
Nov. 16, 1877. " Resolved, That on the oc- · casion of opening the Church for funerals, the Sexton be recompensed according to the generosity of the parties for whom it is . opened."
65
Let your funerals be simple, inexpensive, private if possible. The public exposure of remains ought to be discouraged. Let the family take leave of the remains before the assembling of the public.

PLAN OF SUPPORT.
Since the opening of the " Memorial Build- ing," this Church has been supported upon the voluntary subscription plan, the principal features of which are herewith presented.
Subscription cards and envelopes are furnished. These envelopes, with amount of weekly subscriptions enclosed, are collected each Sabbath.
Those who prefer to pay by the quarter can do so. But our usage has fixed the custom of paying by the quarter in advance.
. The Treasurer keeps an account with every subscriber by his number, as printed on the envelope; credits every payment, and after the expiration of the quarter, notifies those that are in arrears.
Every subscriber is entitled to a seat, and to as many sittings as the ordinary number of the subscriber's family requires, irrespective of the amount of the subscription. Subscribers note this number of sittings on the subscrip- tion card.
The choice of sittings is in the order of the amount subscribed-beginning with the highest. Equal sub- scribers decide their order of choice by lot.
...
67
Portions, but not positions, in pews are indicated by the choice. Exclusive rights in pews extend only so far as subscribers are able to occupy them.
If, at any time during the year, after the general selec- tion, one desires sittings upon giving his subscription, he will have choice among the remaining vacant sittings.
THOSE UNABLE TO PAY ARE CHEER- FULLY ACCOMMODATED.
The abobe plan assumes that ebery sincere boorshiger of God bobo enjoys the blessings which the Gospel of Christ confers upon bis soul and the souls of others, both in this life and that bobich is to come, toill, for the sake of these blessings, desire to contribute to the support of that worship and institution bobich is designed to main- tuin and extend these blessings, eben though the contribution may be at the expense or benial of some worldly pleasure or comfort.
The above plan relieves the Church of fixing a price on its privileges, provides seats at people's own prices, and thus accommodates all classes.
The conditions are made with a view of insuring the utmost justice to all, to meet any demand for sittings, and to make the sitting capacity of the Church available as far and as equally as possible to an increasing community . and congregation.
The annual renewal of the subscription gives an advan- tage to our movable community, accommodates new-comers, gives an opportunity to increase a former subscription, to change a sitting, or, if circumstances require, to reduce a previous subscription.
The merits, unanimous approval and surprising success of the plan as tested by this Church during the past five years, are the best reasons with the Consistory in continu- ing the same.
XIII. COLLECTIONS FOR BENEVOLENT PURPOSES.
Collections for the Boards of Foreign and Domestic Missions are taken according to monthly subscriptions; the lists of which are in charge of lady collectors, each one of whom collects in a certain appointed district of the congregation. The amounts thus collected are paid to the Treasurer at the close of the " Preparatory Service."
The total amount collected by this plan from Septem- ber, 1870, to March, 1879-a period of 8 years- is $2,162. This amount is exclusive of special and Sabbath-school collections for these important objects. Estimating the amount to be received during the coming quarter at the ordinary average, the total amount for 9 years will average $244.47 per year. The average plate collections for these objects, for some 9 years pre- vious to the introduction of this plan, was about $97.12 per year. The lists are revised from time to time, as removals, new-comers and other causes may indicate a necessity therefor.
69
The following is a list of present collectors :
Miss Bella Waugh; Mrs. Walter Calhoun; Miss S, E. Cashman; Miss Agnes Beattie ; Miss Minnie Moffat ; Miss Susie. Anderson; Mrs. Thos. Kennedy; Miss Anna Lansing ; Miss Nettie Cook; Miss Gertrude Schuyler; Miss Rachel Mckenzie : Miss Alida Schuyler.
Members of the Congregation, whose names are not already upon any of the lists as subscribers, are earnestly requested to report to any of these collectors, that their names may be enrolled as subscribers to some amount, at least, for these most important collections of the Church.
Collections are also taken up for the follow- ing objects, at such times as are here noted :
3d Sabbath in January-For the Watervliet Bible So- ciety.
3d Sabbath in March-For the Widows' Fund.
3d Sabbath in April-For the Board of Education.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS.
It is recommended to every member of the Congregation to procure a copy of the Con- stitution of the Church, to read the Catechism, Confession of Faith and Standards, to procure copies of the Minutes of the Synods, and to become familiar with the order and doctrines and measures of the Reformed Church. The Pastor will readily obtain these for any who may be desirous of them.
" The Christian Intelligencer," " The Sow- er," and "Mission Monthly," are the papers of the Denomination. They ought to be in every household of the Congregation.
Always be present at the appointed services of the Church. . Be punctual. Let it be a part of your religion not to disturb the religion of others. Do not forget or neglect the Prayer
76
Meeting. Attend the Sabbath School, either to teach, learn or encourage. Erect and be careful to maintain the family altar. Do not forget to pray for the Church and Pastor.

RECORDS.
During the year 1873 the Records of the. Church were thoroughly revised and corrected under the assiduous labors of Messrs. John C. and Garret L. Schuyler. They were after- wards faithfully copied, and most handsomely and gratuitously engrossed by Mr. J. P. Thomas, who has been appointed by the Consistory as their Recorder.
The following is a catalogue of the men- bers of this Church. The Recorder, Pastor, or any of the Consistory will be thankful for information leading to the correction of any mistakes in the following list :
