The NEW YORK CENTRAL RAILROAD, running the entire length and through the most populous part of the State, forms one of the great, oldest and best managed links of communication between the East and the West.


It has two castern termini. one at Albany and the other at Troy, connecting at Schenectady. and running thence west through Utica. Rome, &c., to Syracuse, from which point there are two roads running to Rochester, known as the " Direct Road," via Port Byron, Lyons, &c., and the " Old Road," via Auburn, Cayuga, Geneva, Canandaigua, &c. From Rochester there are also two roads running west, one through Lockport, &c., to Niagara Falls, and the other through Batavia. &c., to Buffalo. Also, a branch commencing at Buffalo and running along the banks of the Niagara River, through Tonawanda and the village of Niagara Falls to Lewiston ; and likewise a branch from Tonawanda to Lockport.


At either Albany or Troy, passengers for New York and intermediate places, connect with the Hudson River Railroad, Harlem Railroad, or (during the sea- son of navigation,) with North River Steamers. Passengers for Pittsfield, Springfield, Worcester, Boston, Hartford, New Haven, Providence, and inter- mediate places, connect with Western Railroad and its connections. Passen- gers for Saratoga Springs, Rutland, Burlington, Montreal, and all places North, also connect by Railroad, from either Albany, Troy, or Schenectady.


Passengers for Sharon Springs, leave the Central Railroad at Palatine Bridge, and go from there by stage. Those for Cherry Valley, Cooperstown and places South, leave at Fo:t Plain Those for Trenton Falls leave at Utica and go by Railroad. Those for Watertown and places North, connect with the Rome and Watertown Railroad at Rome.


At Syracuse, the Central Railroad connects with the S. & B. R. R., running to the Erle R. R. at Binghamton, and with the O. & S. R. R., running north to Oswego.


At Canandaigna, with the E. C. & N. Falls Railroad, running to the Erie Railroad at Elmira.


At Rochester with the B. C. & N. Y. Railroad, running to the Erie Railroad at Corning. And with Steamers for all ports on Lake Ontario.


At Buffalo with steamers on Lake Erie, (during the season of navigation, ) and with the Lake Shore Railroad to Erie, Cleveland, Sandusky, Toledo, and thence to Chicago by Michigan Southern Railroad.


At Niagara Falls passengers connect with the Great Western Railroad (Cara- da) to Detroit, and from thence to Chicago by Michigan Central Railroad.


At Lewiston passengers connect (during the season of navigation) with Steamers for Toronto and all ports on Lake Ontario.
