STREET DIRECTORY.

The streets of this city run with the points of the compass, north from the Ohio River and east from the Scioto River. The streets known by numbers as Front, Second, Third, etc. are parallel with the Ohio River, and run east from the Scioto river. In the following list, the streets are not given in alphabetical order, but are arranged as they actually run. in one, two, three order, commencing at the Ohio River, and commencing at the Scioto River. The house numbering system in vogue is antiquated, complicated and bad. and will continue to be so, until the city government will courageously order and carry out the modern standard system of house- numbering, which will eventually become an imper- ative necessity. At present, the streets running east from the Scioto River are numbered on a consecutive system divided east and west at Chillicothe street. The numbering on these streets has become very

complicated and unsatisfactory. It was unnecessary and absurd to divide the city into east and west streets, when nature had provided an initial base for the num- bering, on both the east and west, in the Ohio and Scioto Rivers. The streets running north from the Ohio River are properly numbered on the standard sys- tem, that is, allowing one hundred numbers to each block.

It will also be seen that streets in the city, and in additions, in territory that will soon be annexed to the city, are enjoying the same namnes. 1555092
