T TO BUILD A CHURCH, school and other buildings requires a great sacrifice on the part of the parishioners and the priests. Many times the priest is criticized for asking or re- minding his flock of the necessity of supporting the parish. It must be realized that all these buildings are necessary.
The Church is needed because the Church is the center of the Spiritual life and the house of the Living God in the Holy Eucharist. Without the parochial school the future of the parish would be endangered. The parish hall is also needed so that the young generation would have a proper and whole- some place where to meet socially, rather than places of questionable character. But the most important purpose of a Catholic Parish is to spread the Kingdom of God on this earth, to teach the people to live lives in accordance to the teachings . of our Lord Jesus Christ. In this respect our parish is fulfilling its duty.
Each Sunday hundreds of faithful Catholics young and old, are attending the Sacrifice of the Mass. The light of the Gospels reaches and influences the homes of our people, strengthens them to overcome temptations, and to bear patiently the crosses of this life, hundreds are receiving Holy Communion from every home, ascend prayers to heaven, ask- ing God for His graces and blessings for themselves and their families in their daily needs.
Parents and children are taught their duties, married people about the sacredness and obligations of married life, infants are received into the church through the Sacrament of Baptism, and the sick and the dying were consoled in their safferings and fortified by the last sacraments of the Catholic Church.
The parish has also done its duty from the national stand .. point. Whenever it was necessary to contribute to the national welfare, either for Slovakia or for our dear United States, our parishioners supported these undertakings. We may safely state that our parish is a center of, not only spiritual life, but also of national, social and cultural life. There were over 200 young people of this parish serving in the United States Armed Forces in all corners of the world, 10 of whom made their supreme sacrifice in defense of our country.
May our Lord reward all the living and deceased members of this parish for their generosity and cooperation. May our Lord give His reward to the living and deceased pastors who were toiling in the vineyard of our Lord in this, the St. Ignatius and Holy Rosary Parish.

Main Altar on Good Friday
This present pamphlet covers the history of Holy Rosary Church starting with the year 1946 until January of 1948. This is a continuation of the two last pamphlets published by the Pastor, Rev. Paul Palka.
1946
January 28 The schedule of the Sunday Masses was changed after the parishioners had voted 180 in favor of the change and 80 against the change. The 6:00 o'clock Mass was changed to 5:30 and the 11:30 Mass was changed to 12:00 o'clock.
April 21 The Most Reverend Bishop assessed our parish the sum of $17,250 for the enlargement of Central Catholic High School. This amount was to be paid in one and one-half years time.
May 15 The altar boys cassocks and surplices were bought. The old cassocks and surplices were mostly donations after the fire that destroyed the church in the year 1939. The donors names for this good cause are as follows:

May 19 The parish had a can goods drive for the needy European people. During this drive we collected 1,500 cans of food.
May 25 The Service Mothers' Club which was so active during the years of the war sponsored a banquet for all service . men and their wives. After this affair the organization was dissolved.
Sepulchre on Good Friday
August 11 The Holy Rosary Bulletin appeared on the scene of the parish. This was the birthday of our Sunday publication of news and events.
August 18 The major improvements made during the summer months were the following :
1. All window frames and metal parts on the school and church buildings have been painted as they have not been painted since the buildings were built.
2. The parish hall has been painted and the kitchen improved.
3. The basement walls under the hall have been water- proofed.
4. The Parish House has been retouched on the outside and the front porch has been repaired.
5. The eavestroughs on all buildings have been repaired and painted.
6. The garage has been painted.
7. The ladies of the parish bought a new wash machine for the Sisters.
September 1 The Holy Rosary School Library was organ. ized for the benefit of our school children. It is furnished with good Catholic books and this has enabled the children to read good books and spread the knowledge of the Catholic Church's teachings. This library is enriched every so often with new books which are coming out during the year. The library is also open on Sundays for the parishioners to take home books.
October 6 - 40 YEARS' JUBILEE - On this day at 7:30 in the evening dedication of the Grotto and blessing of the Plaques took place. This Grotto was built by Mr. Paul Pely and we dedicated it to our men and women who served in the armed forces during the war. The following wording appears on the Plaques:
Left Plaque - In Honor of the One Hundred Ninety-six men and women of the Holy Rosary Parish who served in the Armed Forces. 1941 - U. S. A. - 1945.
Right Plaque - In Living Memory of the Men of the Holy Rosary Parish who sacrificed their Lives for our Country.

March 2 New cabinets were built in the parish hall for the dishes and utensils. They were built by Mr. Paul Pely with the help of Mr. George Koscho. These cabinets are convenient for the cooks because they do not have to carry up dishes, etc., from upstairs to the kitchen.
March 9 The following items were donated:

2. Stole by Mrs. D. Romano
3. Two stoles by Mrs. Joseph Teachout

July 27 We put in curb stones along the Sisters' house by the entrance.
VITAL STATISTICS
Every Catholic Church keeps a record of Vital Statistics from its founding, for it realizes the value of such records. We have done the same. We are publishing these statistics for we feel it will give some picture of the spiritual work done during the years of the existence of the parish.
Today, Birth and Baptismal Certificates are in great de- mand. A person without one is like a man without a country. They are needed for purposes of identification, for marriage, for school, for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, for employment, and for various other civic and spiritual matters.
People born before 1910 and even after, in some cases, were unable to obtain their Birth Certificates from the City Hall as their birth records prior to 1910 are incomplete. So the Catholic Church has come to the rescue of its people who need these records. Marriage and Burial Certificates are also needed in many instances.
