INTRODUCTION.
THE HURON COUNTY DIRECTORY is offered to the busy public in the belief that it will save valuable time and money to the purchaser.
It is the result of a personal house to house visit on the part of the publisher and the information gathered, with very few exceptions, at first hand is believed to be as accurate as could be obtained under the circumstances. The canvas required a tramp of about 1500 miles and about 16 weeks time.
W. M. LAWRENCE Directory Publisher
The map made from careful data collected by the publisher, is the handiwork of Deputy County Surveyor L. C. Herrick and speaks well for his skill.
The list of Justices of the Peace and Notaries Public will be found very helpful at times.
The telephone directories of Norwalk, Bellevue, Chicago Junction and New London, make this a complete telephone directory of the county.
Study the Explanatory matter carefully.

Light Your Homes With Acetylene Gas
[For economy in lighting. As a great labor sav- ing with no wicks to trim, no smoky chimneys to clean - No mantles to break - No alcohol to gen- erate before lighting - Just light the match and turn on the gas, and you have the brightest and most pleasing light known, next to sun light- Used in churches, town halls and city lighting all over the country.
[ If interested, call or write and we will cheerfully give a demonstration either in the office or at your private residence.

EXPLANATORY NOTES.
Alphabetical List: 1. Males whose occupations are not given are farmers. 2. New London 2-59 means Route 2, box 59 from New London. 3. L6 Fulton, Monroeville, means 6th house on left side of Fulton St. in village of Monroeville. 4. Abbreviations in parentheses at right of page indicate township in which the person votes. '5. Other matter enclosed in paren- theses forms no part of the address but serves as a reference to the map. 6. The letters X, Y, Z, etc., refer to the map location of persons who have no mail box. 7. The letters A, B, C, refer to mail boxes erected after the routes were numbered, and belong with last preceding number on the route. 8. In addressing mail the route number-i. e., the first number given is sufficient. In villages the street number should not be used in ad- dressing mail.
Route, Street and Village Directory. 1. Family name is given first, usually followed by the given name of the head of the family or owner of property. 2. Names of husband and wife are separated by a colon (:), parent and child by a semicolon (; ), grand parent and grand child by two semi- colons (; ; ), brothers and sisters by a comma (,), unrelated or remoter relatives by a dash (-). 3. O, indicates ownership; R, rents; T, tenant; the figures following the letter O indicate generally the total land owned by the family whose names precede; after R the amount rented either for money or shares, the name or names following in parentheses are the owners of the property. 4. At, Be, etc., indicate Attica, Bellevue, etc., telephone exchanges, and the number and letters following are the telephone directory number or ring of the subscriber. 5. The numbers and letters preceding the names are the box numbers and index letters referred to in the Alpha- betical List and in turn referring to the map, and are used in connection with the route number in the first' black line in capital letters above. 6. Only rural route numbers and letters will be found on the map-the houses in villages are too close together to be indicated on the map. 7. To aid in locating families the name of the township is given where the route crosses from one township to another and the township residence may be found by retracing the route to the first township named above it. 8. Several routes go out of the county for some distance. This accounts for the missing box numbers on some routes. 9. The beginning of each route is indicated by a circle at the edge of the town from which it starts, the number of the route within the circle; from which the route is traced by arrows.
