EDITOR'S NOTES
This first part of the twenty-five year index is included as a supplement of volume twenty-six.
Volumes I through Vll are no longer in print and volumes IX and X are incomplete. If there is sufficient demand these will be reprinted. Some other issues are in short supply and orders will be filled as received.
An order form is included as the last page of this issue.
INDEXER'S NOTES
Included in this index are the first twenty-five volumes of THE OHIO RECORDS AND PIONEER FAMILIES. There are four issues in every volume. Roman numberals designate volume number. Arabic numerals designate page number. Example: Ackermann XXIII: 122 is Volume 23:page 122.
Using the Subject Index By Volume in Conjuction with the Surname Index will save alot of time. After finding a surname in the Surname Index, check the Subject Index to find out which issue of the volume your surname will be found. Also, you'll be able to tell what subject or county your surname will be listed in conjunction with. Example: Ackermann XXIII: 122 (Surname Index) can be found under Volume XXIII, Number 3, 1982, Page 122, Clark County Naturalization Records (Subject Index). Remember there are four issues to each volume or 100 issues all together. This simple procedure can save time.
In Volume Il there is a page between pages 12 and 13. 12* is used in the Surname Index to designate that page.
In Volume XII there are two pages numbered 164 There is one in Issue 3 and one in Issue 4. #3-164 and #4.164 are used to tell the two apart.
In many issues there are a few pages at the front and back that are not numbered. A number in ( ) is used to designate which issue the surname can be found. Example: Adams XVII:(2). Adams can be found in the second issue of Volume 17 on an unnumbered page.
All efforts have been made to prevent mistakes, however, there probably are many. If one is found, please let us know so that the correction can be made. While working on the index, it became apparent that some middle names may have been put in the original indexes as surnames. Without the original documents to verify these names one way or the other, they were, for the most part, left in. Be careful.
Six years have been spent on compiling, checking and rechecking this index. I hope this index helps each and every one of you in your search for you Ohio ancestors.
My thanks to Dr. William Houston for giving me the opportunity to undertake the project and the Mary Jane Henney and Anne Dallas Budd for giving me the courage to begin indexing THE OHIO RECORDS AND PIONEER FAMILIES eight years ago.
I dedicate this work in loving memory of Esther Wygandt Powell. If it wasn't for her love of Ohio's records there would be no OHIO RECORDS AND PIONEER FAMILIES or an index for it.
