TWENTY-FIFTH ANNUAL EDITION.

In the compilation of this volume we have endeavored to surpass all previous efforts and the result, as presented, may be be accepted by the public as a personal and business guide, combining completeness with reliability to as great a degree as is possible in the preparation of such a work in a city where removals, changes and periodical absentees are so numerous as in Cleveland. We could not, of course, hope to make it perfect; but if we have succeeded in avoiding such errors as would result from negligence, and have incorporated only those that may properly be termed unavoidable, we are confident the work will meet with approval.

The Directory has grown in importance each year, its trustworthiness is established, its standard of excellence maintained. Being an object of constant and hourly reference, its annual reappearance is eagerly looked for by an appreciative public.

There is no surer indication of the growth and enterprise of a city than is presented by the changes found in a Directory of its inhabitants. This volume contains the names and ad- dresses of one hundred and seventeen thousand, five hundred and forty-three (117,543) individuals, only those resident within the city's corporate limits being included in the count.

At the usual ratio of 3 inhabitants to one name, we have, August 10, 1895, a population of THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY-TWO THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE (352,629). See tabulated statement below.

The DIRECTORY YEAR extends from July to July, for the reason that the great bulk of removals, this year unprecedentedly numerous, occur during the months of June and July, and to issue the Directory at an earlier date would be at the expense of accuracy. A specific "Moving day" should be established.

Attention is called to the handsome map, new with this volume and free to subscribers.

Respectfully,

CLEVELAND DIRECTORY PUB. CO.
