INFORMATION REGARDING LONG DISTANCE CALLS
TYPES OF CALLS
There are two general types of calls, Station-to-Station and Person-to-Person.
STATION-TO-STATION CALLS. On this type of call you are connected with a distant telephone or private switchboard and timing is started on the call when anyone at the called telephone location answers. Station-to-Station calls are handled more rapidly and, consequently, at lower rates than Person-to- Person calls.
PERSON-TO-PERSON CALLS. On this type of call you are connected with a particular person or with a particular tele- phone or department reached through a private switchboard. Although the rates are higher than for Station-to-Station calls, the timing does not begin until you reach the person, station or department you designated when placing the call.
PLACING THE CALL
Your call can be completed more promptly if you know the phone number in the distant cily. There is space on Page 1 the numbers you frequently call.

NIGHT AND SUNDAY CALLS
Reduced rates are in effect every night from 6:00 P.M. to 4:30 A.M. and all day Sunday for Station-to-Station calls hav- ing an initial period day rate in excess of 35 cents and for Person-to-Person calls having an initial period day rate în excess of 60 cents.
COLLECT CALLS
On a Collect Call the charge is billed to the distant telephone. There is no extra charge for this service when the initial period rate exceeds 20 cents. Notify the Long Distance Operator when placing the call that it is a "Collect Call."

INFORMATION REGARDING LONG DISTANCE CALLS
Continued from preceding page,
MESSENGER CALLS
When you desire to talk to someone who does not have a telephone, the Long Distance Operator will arrange to send a messenger to call your party to the nearest available telephone. Person-to-Person rates plus the actual charges for the messen- ger apply to this service.
APPOINTMENT CALLS
The Long Distance Operator will arrange for you to talk to a distant party at a specified time, if you so desire. Person-to- Person rates apply to this service.
CONFERENCE CALLS
You can talk from your telephone simultaneously to a number
of long distance points. You need no special equipment-just call Long Distance, ask for the Conference Operator and give her the details of your call. This service is inexpensive. OVERSEAS CALLS
Information on the availability of telephone service to over- seas points and the rates applicable thereto may be obtained from the Long Distance Operator.
Some typical week-day rates for a three-minute call are: To Argentina, Australia, Denmark, Italy, the United Kingdom, the U.S.S.R. and Venezuela, $12.00; to Colombia and Hawaii, $9.00; to Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands, $7.50; and to Bahamas, $6.75. Reduced rates apply on calls to many countries during certain night hours and on Sunday.
DIALING INSTRUCTIONS
OBTAIN THE CORRECT NUMBER FROM THE DIRECTORY
If the telephone number you wish is not in this directory, call INFORMATION for it as instructed on Page 1 under "Telephone Service Calls."
LISTEN FOR THE DIAL TONE
The dial tone is a steady humming sound. Do not start to dial until you hear it. It indicates the equipment is ready to receive your call. If you do not hear it, hang up and try again a little later.
DIAL THE NUMBER
With the receiver removed, place your finger in the dial opening over the desired letter, or figure, and turn the dial to the finger stop. Release it quickly. Do not touch the dial as it returns to its normal position. If you make a mistake, hang up, and then try again in a few moments.
TOLEDO EXCHANGE SUBSCRIBERS ·
To call a number in Toledo dial the first two letters of the central office name and then each figure of the number. Telephone numbers may have 4 or 5 figures; all the figures should be dialed.
ALL OTHER EXCHANGE SUBSCRIBERS
To call a number in your Exchange dial only the figures of the number.
To call a number in other Exchanges-See Page 2 under CALLS BETWEEN EXCHANGES.
Letters are in black on the dial-figures are in red. Do not confuse them.
AFTER YOU DIAL
A few seconds after you have finished dialing, the ringing signal (a soft bur-r-r), the busy signal (a rapid buzz-buzz) or the no-such number signal, a siren-like sound, will be heard. The ringing signal means wait for your party to answer. The busy signal means hang up and try again later. The siren-like sound means that you have dialed a non-existent number. If none of these is heard, hang up, verify the number you are calling and dial again. If several attempts fail, dial the oper- ator and explain the circumstances to her. She will assist you.
WHEN THROUGH TALKING
Replace your receiver so that your line will be available for making or receiving other calls. If you have an extension telephone, be certain that the receivers of both telephones are in place. Otherwise your line will be out of order.

TO DIAL "OPERATOR"
Place your finger in the last dial opening, over the word "OPERATOR," and turn the dial to the finger stop, then release it.
FOR PARTY LINE AND EXTENSION USERS
When someone else is using your is RED party line or extension telephone, you will hear dialing clicks, or the ringing signal, or voices. If you hear dialing clicks, lifting your receiver has interfered with someone's dialing and you should inform him of it as soon as he finishes. If you hear another party lift his receiver while you are dial- ing, inform him that the line is in use. After he has replaced his receiver, replace your own for a few seconds. Then dial the complete number again.
TO CALL A PARTY ON YOUR LINE
TOLEDO TWO AND FOUR PARTY SUBSCRIBERS
Dial the Operator and give her the number you want, stating that it is a party on your line. The operator will handle the call, . or tell you how to dial the number direct.
TOLEDO RURAL and HOLLAND, MAUMEE, PERRYSBURG and WHITEHOUSE TWO AND FOUR PARTY SUBSCRIBERS
Dial the desired number in the regular way. When you hear the busy signal, hang up your receiver. Your telephone and the one you are calling will start ringing. When the called party answers, your telephone will stop ringing; then lift your receiver and start conversation. If the called party does not answer, lift - your receiver to release the connection (which will stop the ringing) and then replace your receiver.
CURTICE PARTY LINE SUBSCRIBERS
Telephones having the first four digits of their number alike are on the same line.
To call a party on your own line, the number to dial is different than the one listed for that party.
Any subscriber on any party line may reach any other party on that line by first dialing "8," then the last figure of your own number and the last figure in the number of the party wanted, then hang up your receiver. When your telephone stops ringing, the party called has answered. Remove your receiver and talk. If the party called does not answer, you may stop your telephone ringing by lifting the receiver for a second.
