LANCASTER.
Lancaster is an incorporated city, and the county seat of Fairfield county, is the largest and most important town, except Columbus, on the Columbus and Hocking Valley R. R. The city is about thirty miles from Columbus, and is beautifully situated in a valley in the central part of the county, and sur- rounded by hills from the summit of which a view may be had of almost the entire county. The population of Lancaster is now about 7000; it contains a number of manufacturing estab- lishments, among which is one of the largest manufactories of Agricultural Implements in the State. The shipping facili- ties are two important Railroads, the Columbus and Hocking Valley, and Cincinnati and Muskingum Valley; also the Ohio Canal.
