SCOTT & BUNNELL,

9

TOLEDO, OHIO,

At their New Rooms in Timpany's Block, are prepared with Designs for

Residences, Churches, School & Court Houses

HOTELS, STORE FRONTS,

And Architectural Designs of every description, to suit those intending to build.

Complete Plans, Elevations, and Working Drawings,

For private or public buildings, can be furnished promptly ; but at the same time we urge upon those who think of employing an Architect, the necessity of giv- ing him time to mature all the drawings thoroughly, and not oblige him to hurry the work at the last moment before building time. We make no charge for such preliminary sketches as may be necessary to hit upon what is wanted.

When designs are ordered for localities withing a few hundred miles, one of the firm will visit the site of the proposed building, if it is thought necessary, to confer with the party interested in it.

The following gentlemen, who have built from our designs, may be referred to:

HON. JOHN FITCH,. .Toledo. BUILD. COM. CON. CHURCH, .... Adrian, Mich. JOEL W. KELSEY,. HON. J. R. WILLIAMS, Agr. Col., Lansing, M. REV. E. F. PLATT, . S. B. CAMPBELL, ... Castleton, on the Hudson. DR. D. K. UNDERWOOD, . Adrian, Mich. JESUP W. SCOTT, .. 66 66 66 66

EAVE-TROUGH.

The above figure is a transverse section of an improved method of suspending Eave-Troughs, for which a patent was granted to the subscriber on the 7th of March, 1854.

The Eave-Trough (d) is made in the usual form, with the cross-bar (c) solder- ed to it of sufficient strength to sustain the weight and keep the trough in shape. From this cross-bar there extends an iron rod (a) with a screw and nuts (b b) at its lower end. This rod is bent to conform to the roof of the building, and is flattened at its upper end and nailed to the roof as shown. The screw and nuts in this rod allow of the trough being elevated or lowered on the said rod. A staple should be driven over the rod near the lower edge of the roof board.

By this arrangement the House and Cornice will not be disfigured, as by the common method of putting up Troughs; will be held more straight and firm ; will not rust as other Troughs do; and can be put up in one-fourth the time required by the old way.

DIPLOMAS GRANTED BY THE OHIO AND N. Y. STATE FAIRS.

PRICES.

For { inch Rods 8 to 12 inches long, with 32 to 5 inch cross-bars, $12,00 ₺ gross For § Rods 10 to 14 inches long, with 62 and 7 inch cross- bars, 15,00

BeasI am manufacturing a Tool for bending the Rods, which will be found very convenient to persons using my Fastenings. The Rods cannot be broken, if bent in this Tool. PRICE 75 CENTS.

LUCAS COUNTY

Mutual Insurance Co., TOLEDO, OHIO.

This home company, now fully organized, offers to the FARMERS of North- western Ohio, all the advantages of a

FARMERS' COMPANY.

Covering by Insurance in their policies, farm property in a class exclusively by itself. The Directors are enabled to fix the rate of premiums so small that all may avail themselves of the protection which it affords.

POLICIES ARE ISSUED AS CHEAP AS FROM ANY OTHER

Sound and Responsible Company. The advantage arising from a connection with a home office, must be apparent to all. The reason why men insure their property is, that more or less property is every year destroyed by fire. Hence they want protection-and the absolute necessity of such protection has compell- ed the Farmers of Lucas and adjoining Counties to seek Insurance in different of- fices, where frequent delays arise, in case of loss, from the fact that the parties cannot, without great expense, meet face to face, and make an adjustment of it. The difficulty is now obviated by the

ORGANIZATION OF A HOME COMPANY, which, with its excellent charter, meets the approval of the Farmers generally, who are cheerfully uniting from every township to build up an institution wor- thy their patronage. It is the purpose of the Directors, to deal openly, honora- bly and promptly with the members of the company, and they therefore, ask and expect the patronage necessary to make this a permanent institution.
