The first Bethel labors were commenced in the fall of 1847 by Rev. Thomas Cooper.
The congregation continued to worship in the building now occu- pied by the Custom House until January, 1853, when the beautiful edifice (of which the illustration on page 102 is a correct representa- tion) was completed and dedicated.
The building is 33 by 80 feet, and beautifully finished within and without.
Hours for holding service-2 o'clock in the afternoon and 7 in the evening. Seats free, and all seamen are particularly invited to attend.
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. Rev. WM. S. KENNEDY, Pastor.
Organized December 11th, 1852. Commenced building a House
