This regiment was organized at Columbus, Ohio, April 25, 1898. Mustered into the United States Volunteer service, May 9, 1898. It was composed of the companies from the different parts of the State of Ohio as follows: Company A, Columbus; Company B, Columbus; Company C, Columbus; Company D, Marysville; Com- pany E, Washington C. H .; Company F, Columbus; Company G, Marion; Company H, Portsmouth; Company I, Lancaster; Com- pany K, Delaware; Company L, Mt. Vernon; Company M, Circle- ville. Left Columbus, Ohio, May 15, 1898, for Chickamauga, Ga., arriving there May 16, 1898. Left Camp Thomas, Chickamauga Park, Ga., July 22, 1898, arriving at Newport News, Va., July 24, 1898. Left Newport News, Va., July 28, 1898, on board U. S. S. St. Paul, arriving at Arroyo, Porto Rico, August 3, 1898. Left Arroyo, P. R., August 5, 1898, arriving at Guayama, P. R. Captured Guayama, same day about 1:00 P. M. Regiment was engaged in general advance against the enemy, August 13, 1898, when recalled by orders from the War Department, ordering cessation of hostili- ties. Left San Juan for United States, Oct. 29, 1898, on board U. S. S. Chester, arriving at New York, November 4, 1898. Arrived at Columbus, Ohio, November 6, 1898. Fourloughed for sixty days. Mustered out January 20, 1899, at Columbus, Ohio.
