ARTICLES OF FAITH.
I.
WE believe that the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired,1 that it is the only sufficient and perfect rule of faith and practice.2 and that it teaches the follow- ing doctrines : -
1 2 Tim, iii. 16 ; 2 Pet. i. 19-21; Rom, ili. 1, 2 ; Luke xxiv. 44-46 ; John x. 34, 35 ; Matt. v. 17, 18 : John v. 36-39, 45-47 : John xiv. 26, xvi. 12-14 ; Gal. i. 6-12, ii. 8, 9 ; 2 Pet. iii. 15, 16.
2 2 Tim. ill. 15-17: 2 Pet. i. 19-21 ; Matt. v. 19; John xii. 17, 48; Matt. xv. 9.
II.
There is one God.' self-existent." infinite in every natural and moral excellence.3 Ile has revealed himself as existing in three persons, - the Father. and the Son (or the Word), and the Holy Spirit.+ These three are one in respect to divine essence, though differing in the relations which they bear both to one another and to created beings.5
1 Deut. vi. 4 : Isa. xlv. 21. 22. 2 Exod. iii. 13-15 : Isa. xliii. 10.
3 Deut. xxxii. 4; Exod. xxxiv. 6, 7; Ps. XxxVi. 5-9; Matt. v. 48; 1 Pet. i. 14-17.
4 Matt. xxviii. 19, iii. 16, 17: 2 Cor. xiii. 14: 1 Cor. xii. 3-6; John i, 1-13, xiv. 26, xv. 26, xvi. 13, 14 ; Act> v. 3, 4: 1 Cor. ili. 16, 17.
5 John : 1, 2, v. 17-30, xvi. 14, 15, xvii. 5. 24 ; Heb. i. 1-4 ; Col. i. 15-17 ; Rev. .xxi. 22, 23

III.
Man was created holy,1 but by willful disobedience to ' God he fell from the state of holiness, and became guilty and depraved." In consequence of this fall. the whole human race is depraved : 3 moreover, all responsible human beings have actually sinned. and are justly ex- posed to condemnation in the sight of God." The sinful character of men consists in this, that they are destitute of love to God. and self-willed, instead of obedient to him.5

IV.
The only way of deliverance from this state of sin and condemnation is through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ,1 who is the Eternal Word in personal union with human nature .? He freely offered himself as a substitute, to suffer and die in behalf of all men.3 In thus offering himself to God. he became a perfect Saviour,4 by whom all who will may be saved.5. All men are invited to ac- cept him as the Saviour of their souls.6 and to all who do so accept him he is the actual ground of justification and eternal life .?

All who truly obey the gospel were chosen in Christ " before the foundation of the world," by Him who sees the end from the beginning ;1 and, in consequence of God's purpose and grace. they are regenerated by the Holy Spirit.2 without whose regenerating influence none would ever repent and believe.3

Nothing can separate true believers from the love of God ; 1 but they will be " kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation,"" the sure and final proof that they are true believers consisting in the continuance of their attachment and obedience to Christ until the end of life.3

A church is a company of baptized believers, worship- ing together, organized for the preaching of the gospel, the observance of the ordinances, and the promotion of Christ's kingdom.1 Each church is independent and self- governed, though in fraternal fellowship with other churches .? The officers of a church are pastors and dea- cons.3

The ordinances of the gospel are baptism and the Lord's Supper.1 Baptism is the first formal act of the christian life.2 -It is immersion in water. into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,3 and is administered only to professed believers in Christ." The Lord's Supper is observed in commemoration of the death of Christ,5 and follows baptism.2. "

COVENANT.
As we trust that we have been brought by divine grace to receive the Lord Jesus, and have acknowledged by our baptism the obligation to lead a new and holy life. we do now covenant : -
That we will walk together in brotherly love. we will exercise mutual care and watchfulness. and faithfully ad- monish and help each other as may be needful.
That we will rejoice in one another's good, and bear one another's burdens.
That we will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together.
That we will faithfully study the word of God, will pray for ourselves and others, and will bring up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord the children committed to our care.
That as stewards of the Lord we will aid in the support of an evangelical ministry among us. in the relief of the Lord's poor. and in the spread of the gospel throughout the world.
That we will live circumspectly before men. so that by our example. as well as our teachings. we may win them to Christ.
And that through life, amidst evil report and good re- port, we will endeavor, as we have received Jesus Christ the Lord, so to walk in him.
