ITALO-AMERICANS OF RHODE ISLAND
Vicario, Raphael 172
EXCERPTS FROM COMMENT ON UBALDO U. M. PESATURO'S WORK OF "ITALO-AMERICANS OF RHODE ISLAND."
Pursuing the history of the earliest immigration of Italians to the State, Mr. Pesaturo has contrived to cover his field fully. Not only those of Italian descent but others as well may read the book with the deepest interest. It concerns all, of whatever origin or persuasion.
-Providence Sunday Journal, January 17, 1937.
I certainly feel that the work you have done is a most valuable contribution to the history of the State, and as time goes on your work will be more and more appreciated. It will be of great help to future research students on the subject.
-Howard M. Chapin, Librarian, Rhode Island Historical Society, May 6, 1937.
Congratulations for your very fine book "Italo-Americans of Rhode Island." These Rhode Islanders of Italian birth or descent have given a note- worthy contribution to the life of our State. As American citizens they have proved themselves true to the highest American ideals, while always remain- ing worthy of their magnificent Italian background. You have made all this clear, in your book and thereby you have contributed a valuable chapter to the history of this State.
-Prof. A. De Salvio, Brown University, May 27, 1937.
Your work represents a great deal of labor and I am sure you must feel rewarded for it by the successful completion of the account of the activi- ties of the citizens of Rhode Island who are of Italian descent. The collection of their individual accomplishments into a single volume is a fine tribute and a worthy record of their contribution to the civic life of their state.
-Rev. F. S. Fanning, O.P., Librarian, Providence College, February 19, 1938.
All Italo-Americans will find in your book a magnificent treasure- house of recorded activities and accomplishments, and will draw from the sacrifices, labors and honesty of their fathers shining examples which will spur them in furthering their contributions in the development and progress of the State. Furthermore, your book will undoubtedly enable all the peoples of America to acquire a better knowledge on the marvelous contributions and achievements of Rhode Islanders of Italian birth or descent.
-Dr. V. Verderosa, Regent Royal Italian Vice Consulate, Providence, R. I. October 26, 1936.
Ubaldo U. M. Pesaturo seems to be thoroughly acquainted with the history of Italian immigration to the United States. His book Italo-Americans of Rhode Island is worthy to be placed in every library of those who are following the progress of our immigrants in the great American Republic. "Il Mattino," Naples. October 6, 1937.
