PREFACE.

The many requests for information concerning data of early Jewish family histories has induced the compiler to place his card-index at the disposal of the public. The list of Newspaper Marriage Notices included in this volume will be found to be fairly complete. They have been gath- ered from many libraries and in many places. Being away from the sources the compiler regrets that he has not been able to verify the references, as is his custom. For the sake of completeness, he has added a number of entries from the records at City Hall, Charleston, S. C.

NEW YORK, February, 1917.
