UNION, SOUTH CAROLINA


We take pleasure in presenting to the public the first Di- rectory of the city. We have endeavored to give you as com- plete a directory as is possible for any one to make the first issue. We have used the services of only of experienced di- rectory men, and the information contained herein, can be re- lied upon, considered as a whole. We shall continue the pub- lication of this directory bi-annually, until there is a demand for an annual book. It is our purpose to improve each suc- ceeding issue. To those who made the publication of this issue possible, by their liberal support, we desire to give our thanks and to extend them and the public in general for so courteously giving our canvassers the desired data.

Cotton manufacturing in Union and vicinity represents $8,000,000 capital, 290,000 spindles, 7,645 looms, consumes 60,000 bales of cotton annually, employs 5,000 operatives, has an annual pay roll of nearly $1,000,000 and turns out each year finished products valued at $6,000,000.
