REMARKS. - The foregoing table contains no misdemeanors tried elsewhere than in courts of record. Many of the indictments for misdemeanors were transferred to the courts of justices of the peace for trial and this will generally account for the discrepancy between the numbers noted as pending and those noted as tried, quashed, or dismissed. Moreover, in some instances two or more defendants have been tried together, which accounts for discrepancy in the number of convictions and acquittalis as compared with the nutaber of truth. Again, many tried for felonies were convicted of misdemeanors, which is another cause of the failure of the trial columns to balance with the conviction and acquittal columns.
