J. L. FISHER, SAMUEL ABBOTT, T. H. WHITMORE,

Appraisers.

Chester, Vt., Jan. 20, 1872.

This year's Appraisal, $7,636,00

Last year's Appraisal, 6,642,00

Increase,

$994,00

We find that the Overseer has paid for support of Poor, in- cluding Services and expenses, $1,395,52

To which add interest on appraisal of 1871, 398,52

Making $1,794,04

From which deduct amount received from farm and

other sources, 601,32

Which is the amount actually expended (calling in- terest and expenses,) in excess of receipts, for support af poor, $1192,72

It will be seen that the appraisers added $1200 the present year to the farm, and that the appraisal this year, exceeds that of last year, only $994, which would make the appraisal of the personal property $206 less than last year.

The Overseer states that there has been 13 paupers on the farm the past year, that there are now 11 on the farm-and that 30 persons have received help away from the farm, and that 4 and half of the support of another, are entirely depen- dent. Springfield pays for one-half of the support of Joel Bemis, who is 78 years old. Six of the paupers are each over 80 years old, and one 88. Seven are over 75 years old. There has been but one death this year, and that was at the farm.
