JOHN JUDD, School Board of C. S. WILMOT, Thetford.

Examined and found correct. E. M. FULLINGTON, C. A. ADAMS Thetford, June 30th, 1911.

Auditors.

To the School Directors of . Thetford:

A law was passed at the last session of the legislature requir- ing the superintendent to submit a written report to the directors concerning the needs and condition of the schools, such report to be submitted on or before June 30. Agreeable to this law I submit a brief report along these lines.

Twenty-five different teachers have been employed. Of these 3 are graduates of normal schools and 19 of high schools or ecademies. Eleven have taught r term in the same school, eight 2 terms, four 3 terms and three more than one year.

Schoolhouses are in fairly good condition with exception of the one in the Judd district which is hardly suitable for a winter term. The blackboards in some of the schoolrooms need slight repair-this is notably true at Post Mills. I suggest that the directors examine these before the opening of the fall term.

Stovepipes and chimneys should be examined as to safety and cleaned if necessary before cold weather in the fall.

Outhouses should also be inspected.

Eleven schools have been maintained with pupils distributed as follows :

Seventy-nine per cent. of the pupils satisfactorily completed their grade work and received promotion cards as a result of the examination held June 8-9, 1911. This excludes ninth grade pupils who took the examination for free tuition and primary pupils who entered too late in the year to complete their years work.

Some new text-books will be needed to displace old ones in poor condition. I see no need of immediate change of text- books.

Teachers should be engaged for the fall term as early as possible.

The teachers' examination will be held at West Fairlee Aug. 24-25, 1911.

Respectfully submitted,

CHAS. P. MCKNIGHT.
