CONFESSION OF FAITH
ARTICLE I. We believe that there is one God, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, infinite in power, wisdom, and goodness, and worthy of our highest love, worship and obedience.
ART. 2. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the "Word of God" and are to be observed as the perfect rule of our faith and practice.
ART. 3. We believe that all mankind possess sinful natures and that God sent His Son to be our Saviour.
ART. 4. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, by his voluntary humiliation, sufferings and death, made full atonement for sin, and that forgiveness and eternal life are freely bestowed on all who repent of their sins.
ART. 5. We believe that in the same love in which God gave His Son to die, He also sends His Loving Spirit to quicken the hearts of men and that by His gracious in- fluence men are sustained in trial and temptation, and kept through faith unto salvation.
ART. 6. We believe that the Lord Christ has es- tablished a visible Church in this world, to consist of those who publicly confess Him their Saviour, and covenant to walk together in the fellowship of the gospel and that the ordinances of the Church are Baptism and the Lord's Sup- per,
--

CHURCH MANUAL ..
ART. 7. We believe that there should be an observ- ance of the Christian Sabbath, an attendance of public wor- ship, and the practice of godliness, honesty, and brotherly kindness. Such observance and practice we believe to be essential to Christian character and growth.
ART. 8. We believe in the resurrection of the dead.
ART. 9. We believe in a final day of judgment, when a just and benevolent "Heavenly Father" will award to each of His earthly children the measure of reward and discipline which His infinite love and justice shall deter- mine to be right.
(The Apostles' Creed may be substituted for the above.)
While we declare in this form, the faith which we be- lieve to have been once delivered to the saints, we do not restrict the freedom of our members in the interpretation of God's word.
We reserve to ourselves the right to accept from those who may hereafter join us, other evangelical forms of faith, whenever they are consistent with our Savior's teachings and necessary to the liberty of the Gospel.
As much of this as you understand, trusting to God for help in dissolving all doubts, do you accept as your declara- tion of faith?
RECEPTION OF MEMBERS
Beloved Friends -- Grace be unto you and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
You now present yourselves to make profession of your faith in Christ, to own yourselves his glad disciples, and to enter into communion and fellowship with His Church.
In this public manner, before God, you desire to re- new and confirm the vows which you have made before Him in secret.
The following is the Confession of Faith adopted by this Church:
(The confession of faith is here read.)
To these articles of faith, so far as understood, do you give your cordial assent?
(Baptism is here administered.)
You will now make on your part this public Covenant with God and this Church.

COVENANT
Conscious of your sin and weakness in yourself, and ac- cepting the free offer of salvation, relying wholly upon Jesus Christ, you do now give yourself to God, as your God, Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and the Holy Ghost as your sanctifier. You promise to try to walk orderly, wait- ing diligently upon the Lord, both in public worship, pri- vate devotions, and daily life. You agree to take the word of God as your guide, following its precepts as far as you un- derstand them and trusting in its mysteries as something to be revealed hereafter. In joining this church of Christ, you heartily accept it as one body in Christ
though
imperfect, and recognize its membership as fellow-laborers in Christ Jesus. You promise to watch over the members of this church accord- ing to Christ's rule of love and discipline and that you will submit cheerfully to the same lest you "suffer sin upon a brother." You agree to sustain its meetings as far as you can consistently, and by God's aid will so endeavor to live as to its faith and ordinances by your example. You prom- ise to wait upon God in prayer to "forgive your many sins" and help you in your struggles to gain the victory, and to enable you to become more worthy of the "Holy calling" you profess?
Do you thus, in the presence of God and His holy angels, as well as these living witnesses, covenant, promise and agree?
(Welcome by the Church.)
(The members of the church will rise, and the pastor will extend the right hand of fellowship)
We, then, the members of this church, do cordially re- ceive you to our communion, engaging, on our part, to love, pray for and watch over you as Christians, as long as you shall continue among us. In his name we declare you entitled to all the privileges of his church, and covenant to seek your advancement in the life and likeness of Him whose name we bear.
Remember, dear friends, that you have entered into a solemn contract, you have promised to serve God and God has covenanted to preserve and keep you, and at last

receive you unto Himself. At eternity this contract will be examined. Christ is faithful, and says to you, "Let not your heart be troubled; neither let it be afraid; peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you." Now, beloved of the Lord, may God guide and preserve you till death, and at last receive you in the "blessed home," above. AMEN.
ADMISSION BY LETTER
(If none join on profession the form of admission will begin here.)
Having heretofore in other Churches, professed your faith, you come now to us with their commendation.
We greet you in the name of Christ our common Lord and Master.
You engage with us to seek the peace and purity of this Church, to submit to its government, so far as con- formable to the rules of the Gospel, to sustain its stated services, to labor for its advancement, and to do all in your power that we may here abide together in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.
Do you thus covenant and engage?
(Welcome by the Church to be read here. The mem- bers of the Church will rise.)
FORM FOR BAPTISM OF CHILDREN
Encouraged by the Divine promises, and by the ten- der regard evinced by our Saviour for the little ones, you present your children to be dedicated to God in the ordi- nance of baptism.
In so doing you desire that they may share in the blessed privileges of those who are of God's household.
Relying upon Divine aid, you engage to instruct these children in the knowledge of God's word, to walk before them in the grace and beauty of the Christian life, and to endeavor in all ways to early lead them in the way of life through our Lord Christ, who said, "Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the king- dom of God."
This you heartily engage?
(Baptism is administered after which the minister adds.)
Rev. R. L. Sheaff

CHURCH MANUAL.
We, then, the members of this church receive these children into special relationship of love and care and we give to you, in your parental work, our sympathy and our prayers.
The Lord bless and keep you and your house and bring you, and them, with all the families that call upon his name, into the mansions of His everlasting rest. AMEN.
(Prayer by the minister.)
Note-In the case of a child brought by parents of other, or no church connection, the minister may at his discretion change this form of baptism.
PRINCIPLES OF CHURCH GOVERNMENT
A church of Christ is a company of professed Chris- tians, united together for Christian work and worship, and is established on the basis of the scriptures, the Bible being its only infallible guide to order and discipline and its rule of faith and practice.
Each local church is complete in itself, whose govern- ment is administrative, not legislative, and thus are respon- sible only to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Every church has a right to regulate its own 'affairs, yet different churches stand in fraternal relations one with another, so that our polity requires due advice from sister churches, in the form of "Councils" at installation and dis- missal of pastor, and also any other matters where advice is needed.
A church is bound by its covenant to maintain a spirit of brotherly love, keep a faithful watch over its members, and preserve its own purity by following Christ's rules for discipline, wherever the case requires.
GOVERNMENT OF THIS CHURCH
This church shall be known as "The First Congrega tional Church of Barton."
This church shall provide proper maintenance for who- ever is "teaching in the Lord," allowing all who are taught in word to contribute, and granting to the ecclesiastical so- ciety the right of concurrent voice in such provision.
All persons may become members of this church who

CHURCH MANUAL.
give evidence of piety and whose views are in harmony with our profession of faith and will give public assent to the same, and the covenant.
Candidates for admission to the church will appear be- fore the proper officers for examination, and it approved, present themselves at preparatory lecture previous to pubs lic profession.
Members of other evangelical churches may unite with this church by letter, by giving public assent to the cove nant, the church always reserving the right of examination if needed.
Letters of dismissal will be granted to specific evangel- ical churches, and are considered valid only for a year. Such letters will be granted only to those in good and regu- lar standing, and if one unites with another church, with out such a letter, it is deemed disorderly and worthy of dis- cipline.
CHURCH DISCIPLINE
It being the right of every church to preserve its puri- ty, the following are the general rules of procedure.
1. Any immorality of conduct, breach of covenant vous, neglect of acknowledged duties, or avowed disbelief and any public or scandalous censure is regarded as an offense subject to the discipline of the church.
2. It is always to be remembered that the main pur pose of discipline is to reclaim, therefore it must be un- dertaken prayerfully, meckly and in strict accordance with Christ's rule laid down in Matthew 18th.
3. The case for discipline, after the scripture rule has been followed, falls into the hands of the committee ap- pointed to investigate such cases.
4. No accused member shall be brought to trial with out due notification, of at least one week's time. Should he (or she) then fail to appear, the case can be tried with out him (or her.)
5. After due hearing of the case through trial of its equivalent, the church are satisfied that the member is guilty, they may vote to censure, suspend or excommuni cate, according to the offense.
6. In cases where the accused refuses trial, or "disse

CHURCH MANUAL.
gards all attempts at reconcilition" it is the duty of the committee to present the case before the church, for their action, and the church can dispose of the case according to rule 5.
7. While one is under censure of excommunication or suspension, he or she is not to be received to spiritual com munion in any church, or to voting priveleges in his or her church, except upon repentance and restoration.
