HARTLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY.


The Trustees of Hartland Library submit the following report : Number of books in Library, about 425, which are equally divided among the three villages. Number of books received from the State, 115. Donations of books have been received from Wil- son Britton's estate, Clarence Stockwell, E. W. Billings, Lucy Temple, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Watriss, H. G. Rugg, D. F. Rugg, W. M. Penniman, F. L. Carpenter, George Hoyt, Mrs. A. N. English, Mary Phelps, Rev. Allen Hazen, Mary Hazen and B. P. Ruggles. One hundred and two books have been purchased with money contributed by the schools. Two old libraries-one be- longing to the town, the other to private individuals-have been added to the list.


Book-cases have been given to the Town by Ordway & Martin for Three Corners, Martin & Stickney for North Hartland and by citizens of Four Corners and vicinity for the Four Corners. Mrs. Teague Dunbar, Mrs. A. A. Sturtevant and Miss Lucy Flower have kindly given their services as librarians. Libraries are open from 1 to 8 o'clock Saturdays.


Cash received : Jenneville school, $5.56; Four Corners school, $2.51; Three Corners primary school, $2.00; Fieldville school, $2.55 ; Three Corners schools, $18.00; North Hartland schools, $20 .- 00; Y.P.C.U., $6.82 ; Town appropriation, $25.00. Total, $82.44. There has been paid for new books, $20.67; cards, labels, record books, etc., $6.88. Cash in Trustees' hands, $54.89.


The school children and others who have aided so materially are to be congratulated and should be encouraged in the good work by a cheerful appropriation from the Town. The thanks of the Trustees are extended to all who have aided in the establish- ment of the Hartland Public Library.

1897. Annual March Meeting.


The inhabitants of the Town of Hartland, Vt., who are legal voters in Town Meeting, are hereby notified and warned to meet at the Town Hall, in said Hartland, on Tuesday, March 2d, 1897, at ten o'clock a. m., to act on the following articles, to wit :


1. To choose a Moderator for the year ensuing.


2. To act upon the reports submitted.


3. To elect the necessary officers for the year ensuing.


4. To raise money by tax for current expenses, for schools, highways and other necessary expenses.


5. To fix the salaries of School Directors.


6. To vote on the question of accepting the provisions of Sec. 480 to 486, inclusive, of the Vermont Statutes, in relation to the collection of tauxs.


7. To appropriate a sum of money for the proper , ol,- servance of Memorial Day.


8. By Petition, To appropriate money for the bene- fit of the Public Library.


9. By Petition, To see if the tax payers will vote to have the town business close on the last day of January in each year hereafter.


10. By Petition, To see if the tax payers will vote to instruct the Selectmen to make their report and have it printed ready for distribution by the 15th day of Febru- ary in each year hereafter. Also, to see that the reports are distributed through the town, for the benefit of the tax payers.


11. To do any other necessary business.
