No man was more prominent in Shelburne; about 1799 he removed to W. and died there Apr. 23, 1806.

Of his nine children the eighth was Josiah? Whitcomb, born in Dorchester, 1638; sett. in Lancaster, where he died Mar. 21, 1718; married, Jan. 4, 1664, Rebecca, dau. Lawrence and Ann (Linton) Waters. They had eleven children, of whom the third was David3 Whitcomb, born Feb. 20, 1668, died Apr. 11, 1730; married, May 31, 1700, in Concord, Mass., wid. Mary (Hayward) Fairbanks. The order of birth of their six children is uncertain but the third, probably, was Joseph' Whitcomb; married, Jan. 20, 1725, Damaris, dau. John and Anna (Houghton) Priest of Lancaster; rem. about 1760 to Swanzey, N. H., where he died Nov., 1792, ae. 92. JOSEPH7 WHITCOMB (Jonathan,& Jonathan,5 Jonathan,4 Jonathan,3 Jonathan," John1), son of Jonathan and Sarah (Baker) Whitcomb, was born in Littleton, Mass., June 28, 1788; physician; attended Williams Coll .; came to W. about 1812; rem. after some years to New Albany, Ind., thence to Natchitoches, La., about 1820, and finally to Nacogdoches, Tex., where he died about 1830.
He married, Dec. 1, 1812, Hannah, dau. Andrew Durkee. Children:
