The result of medical inspection as given in Health Officer's report does not give itemized defects which follow defective teeth 24, enlarged tonsils 17, adenoids 4, nasal breathing 1, undernourished 1.
We recommend that a tax of $1.10 on the dollar of the grand list be voted for maintenance of schools for the ensuing
32
year. We would further recommend that medical inspection be continued.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
To the School Directors and Citizens of Berlin :
As required by law, I present my second annual report as superintendent of schools.
Eight schools have been maintained for 34 weeks each, this being the minimum required by statute.
The number of pupils enrolled at the different schools was: Cox Brook, 18; West Berlin Grammar, 21; West Berlin Primary, 27; Valley, 12; Mirror Lake, 25; East Road, 12; Berlin Corner, 22; Barre Road, 21; total, 158.

Free tuition certificates admitting to high school and di- plomas of graduation were granted to the following at the grad- uation held at West Berlin Friday evening, June 11: Elmer Wesley Dodge, Mary Laura Roux, Albert Dewey Ayers, Cath- erine Johnston Clark, Henry Thomas Stacey, Eva Martha Greene, Robert Ernest Hill and Albert Even Leonard.
The following pupils have attended school the full year without absence: Freda Beane, Wendall Williams, Mildred Clough, Kenneth Beane of Valley school; Alice Dodge, Vivian Dodge of Barre Road and Harold Shepard of Berlin Corner.
Eight pupils have been furnished transportation one term, two pupils two terms, and forty-eight have been transported the full year making fifty-eight different pupils who have been transported. The cost of this transportation was $877.56 a substantial portion of which is borne by the state.
The registers show that 27 cases of truancy have been re- ported by teachers.
Seventy-three visits have been made by the superintendent.
Two local teachers' meetings have been held at which every teacher and school director has been present.
33
The district health officer has examined the pupils of every school.
No radical changes in method or policy have been inaugur- ated or are anticipated on the part of the superintendent.
Except for many cases of whooping cough in two localities the schools have not been badly broken up on account of illness. On the whole, I feel the school year has been a very pleasant and profitable one. For the many courtesies and kindnesses extended, I desire to express my thanks.
Respectfully submitted,
CHAS. P. McKNIGHT, Superintendent.
Northfield, Vt., June 28, 1920.
