Among the many institutions which adorn and do honor to Milwaukee there is none more unique and pleasing than the Layton Art Gallery. With an edifice solidly and artistically built and contain- ing an art collection of 175 high class works and amply endowed, the Layton Gallery seems destined for a long and useful career. The curator of the Gallery is George Raab. It is situated on the N.E. corner of Jefferson and Mason Sts. Open week days from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. in summer and from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. in winter. The city is 85 miles from Chicago and about the same distance from Madison, a the capitol of the state. C. N. Caspar Co.'s

Milwaukee as a Summer Resort.

The reputation of Milwaukee as a summer resort is most admirably sustained by its location and surroundings. The absence of fences in all the residence streets of the metropolis of Wisconsin, bespeaking, as it does, a sweet fraternity and mutual confidence, gives even to the city itself that appearance of comfort, restfulness and free- dom which makes it so ideal a residence city. Its loca- tion, upon the shores of one of the most beautiful of the great lakes, where by turns the dashing waves beat upon the beach, or the gentle ripple, send to end its brief exist- ence by some wandering zephyr, lulls you to restfulness, gives to it an individuality quite its own. The finer streets and avenues, shaded by trees now half a century old, lined with magnificent houses, possessed by the sec- ond generation from the pioneers, give cool and comfort and that air of staid respectability which adds to one's sense of happiness.

Milwaukee Lawyers' Club.

This is a select club organized in 1899, composed of twenty- five active practicing attorneys. ' There are no officers except a secretary, which office has been held by C. I. A Literary Committee and Committee on Enter- tainment are selected at each meeting for the succeeding one. Usually two or three judges are invited guests.
