[READ CAREFULLY,]

VALUABLE SUGGESTIONS ON PAINTING.

BY GEO. F. STROUD.

OUTSIDE WORK - To do a first-class job on the outside of a building, use nothing but the best strictly pure white lead and boiled linseed oil, for the first two coats, then for finishing and last coat, use French zinc and boiled oil. Never use turpentine or benzine for outside work.

Rule for Quantity - 100 Ibs. of strictly pure white lead will cover 1200 feet surface, two good coats, with 5 or 6 gallons of oil. 50 lbs. of zinc will cover as much as 100 Ibs. of lead.

INSIDE WORK - For gloss finish . use one-half French zinc, one-half lead, three-fourths turpentine, and one-fourth boiled oil. This leaves a flat white; varnish over with Damar var- nish, and job is complete.

FLOOR PAINT - To paint a floor 16 feet square - Two good coats of the most durable and handsome paint, use the following: 4 1bs. French ochre, cost 20c, 2 lbs. white lead, 20c; I Ib. red lead, 15c; 1 pint Japan, 20c; 2 qts, boiled oil, 45c. Total cost, $1.20.

AGRICULTURAL IMPLEMENTS, WAGONS, ETC. - Use one-half Venetian red; one-half orange mineral, with boiled oil. One pound of each, with a quart of boiled oil, will do a good job on a double wagon. Varnish with a pint and a half of coach varnish.

TO PREPARE A WALL FOR PAINTING - Use one pound of glue, dissolved in from two to three gallons of water, and size the wall over; also use the same proportions in sizing wall paper, when you wish to paint or varnish over it. A wall sized with the above can be painted as well as if boarded.

To RESTORE FURNITURE - Apply some of Stroud's Oil Finish with a brush, and old fur- niture will become as new.

REMARKS - A little money judiciously invested in paint is never regretted. Nothing beautifies nor preserves from the weather more than paint. There are so many worthless brands of white lead sold to those who are not judges of its merits, that when you have an institution that you can rely upon for the quality of the goods sold, don't go anywhere else. Remember, it costs no more to put on good paint than worthless stuff, and bear in mind the motto, "The best is the cheapest."

Having established a business exclusively of Paints, Oils, Varnishes, Glass, Brushes, Etc., I have endeavored, by fair dealing, to satisfy my customers. This was the first institution of the kind in Wisconsin; this line of goods having previously been handled by druggists. The great success of my endeavors to suit customers is a sufficient encouragement that the people appreciate fair dealing.

Strictly Pure Neatsfoot Oil.

OSHKOSH, WISCONSIN.

Use Loper's Upper Ten Soap for the Toilet, Bath and Laundry. It is the Great Unexcelled.

Among the manufactures of the city which have started into new life, with enlarged pro- portions, since the fire, are the new Soap Works of J. R. Loper. Mr. Loper has been burnt out three times, meeting with heavy losses, and has built up larger than ever, and furnishes another instance of Oshkosh enterprise and business vigor.

The new building is a fine fire-proof structure, with largely increased facilities for the man- ufacture of the superior article of soaps, which are rapidly winning their way into popular favor.

He guarantees low prices, according to the times, and warrants goods just as represented.
