WISCONSIN INSTITUTE FOR THE EDUCATION OF THE BLIND, is a splendid Building, beautifully located on the. east bank of Roek River, in the south western portion of the City.


It has for its object, the moral, intellectnal and physical train- ing of the young blind of both sexcs residing in the State.


It was established in the year 1850, conformably to an aet of the Legislature of the State ; from which body it reccives its entire support, through the medium of direct appropriations, made npun estimates of its wants, furnished annually by the officers in charge.

METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH -Located on Jackson street corner of Centre street. Dedicated in Angnst, 1853. Rev. W. G. Miller, Pastor ; J. M. Riker, Sexton. Honrs of service 10} .A. M. and 7 P. M. Number of members 300.


FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH .- Located on Jackson street ncar Wall.


In the month of Mareb, 1855, Rev. M. W. Staples com- meneed labor in Janesville with tho view of organizing a Cbureb. On the 5th of May following, be, assisted by Rev. Messrs. Sav- age, Park and Gardiner organized the Church with cleven mem- bers. Rev. Mr. Staples became their pastor, and continued sneh until released, at his own request, in May 1858. The pulpit is now supplied by Rev. Oliver Bronson. The present number of members is eighty-two. A well organized and inter- esting Sunday School is maintained, having two bundred and fifty volumes in the library. During the summer of 1855 their house of worship was creeted, and on the 15th day of Septem- ber it was dedicated. It is bnilt of wood, 29 by 52 feet, and eest, exelusive of the lot, about $1,600.


ST. CUTHBERT'S (Roman Catholic.)-Located on Cberry street corner of Holmes street. Rev. John Conroy, Pastor,- Hours of service 8 A. M., 10} A. M. and 3 P. M.


TRINITY (Episcopal) CHURCH .- Located on Bluff street cor- ner of Jackson street. Trinity Parish was organized on the 18th day of September, 1844. Church edifiee erected in 1847 '48, and consecrated on the 14th day of June, 1848. Dimen- sions 42 by 70 feet. Rev. James W. Coe, Rector. Hours of service 102 A. M. and 73 P. M.

The Society owns twenty acres of land in the Southern Division of the City, for tho purposes of a fair ground, and have made improvements thereon to the amount of $3,200.
