STATEMENT BY PUBLISHER.
1
To the People of Mena and Patrons of the Directory :
When the work of compiling the Mena Directory was begun by Mr. O. F. Mourton it was confidently expected that the work would not only be complete, but accurate almost to the last degree of detail.
Unfortunately Mr. Mourton was called away before the task was finally completed, and the data that had been secured was then turned over to The Star.
Much work had been done-too much, it seemed, to be totally lost-and especially in view of the need of a City Directory in Mena. The matter was, for this reason, taken up by The Star, checked so far as could be done without an actual house-to-house canvass, and the re- sult is given herewith. In it will doubtless be found some errors and omissions which, under the circumstances, could scarce be avoided. The Star feels sure, however, the Directory will serve a useful purpose and trusts that at some not too distant time a more perfect directory may be produced. THE MENA STAR.

STREET DIRECTORY.
House numbers are reckoned as east or west according to whether they run east or west from First and South Second streets. They are north or south according to whether they run north or south from Mag. nolia and Southerland avenues.
In this description of the streets, the central and oldest part of the corporation is for convenience called "Old Town." It is a rectangle of 340 acres, and lies diamondwise to the points of the compass. Its corners therefore run north and south and east and west. The avenues parallel the railroad and run from southwest to northeast. The streets cross the avenues at a right angle. The railroad track is bordered by Sherwood on the northwest and Pickering on the southeast, each of these avenues having buildings on one side only. Between Eighth and Eleventh street is hornbeck avenue, which preserves the original direc- tion of Sherwood, the railroad curving southward in the part of . Old Town. Going northwest from the railroad, the avenues, successively. are Janssen, Maple, Port Arthur, Church, Hickory, Walnut and Mag- nolia, the last named lying on the border of Old Town. Going south- east, the avenues, successively, are Martin, Gillham, Oak, Holly and Pine, the last named lying on the opposite border of the Old Town. Beginning on the northeast border of Old Town and going southwest to the other border, the streets are First, Second, Third, Fourth, Mena, DeQueen, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh.
