M. A. LESEM'S Kneipp Sanitarium
FOR THE CURE OF ACUTE AND CHRONIC DISEASES.
2467 FIRST STREET
SAN DIEGO, CAL.
This institution is strictly a Kneipp institution. All treatments are admin- istered in exact accordance with the precepts of Kneipp himself. My marvelous success in curing the sick has been achieved through means of my long experi- ence, coupled with the knowledge of how to properly administer the various treatments, and by strictly confining myself to the Kneipp method of treat- ment. Numberless sufferers have come to me afflicted with very critical diseases which had been pronounced incurable by other practitioners. But with my method of treatment I have obtained the most astonishing results, restoring them to health. I hold in my possession numerous testimonials substantiating the above statement; testimonials freely tendered to mie by the best people in the city and elsewhere. All sufferers desiring relief, who are not familiar with the Kneipp treatment as it is practised by mne, are requested to call, and I will furnish them convincing proofs that any and all diseases, whether acute or of long standing, will yield to my system of using the Kneipp method of treatment. I charge nothing for consultation. Pamphlets furnished upon request.

TO ADVERTISERS
You have been referred to this page by the above card which you have, no doubt, noticed several times.
You may be one of those who do not appreciate the value of Directory Advertising.
A careful estimate shows twelve to be the average number of references each day to each Directory in use in the larger cities. On this basis there would be over 5,200,000 references each year to the San Diego City and County Directory.
If you want to popularize your name, or the name of some articie or line you handle (except in a City Direct- ory) where or how can you, for a small amount, place it for 365 days where it will stand a fair chance of being seen by the people making approximately 5,200,000 ref- erences?
Pears Soap is a striking example where the name of an article is popularized. To hear Pears is to think of soap or "Good morning, etc."
Do you want your name or the name of some article featured? If so, think over the above suggestions; they may prove valuable.
In this edition all of our "Special Spaces" were sold to leading advertisers, and we had to refuse many contracts, as our "Special Spaces" are limited.
In our next edition renewals will be given preference, and new contracts will be accepted in the order received.

PREFACE.
We take pleasure in presenting to the public this edition of the San Diego City and County Directory. We feel confident that our effort to prepare a complete and creditable publication will be appreciated.
We will in the future add new features and endeavor in every way to merit a continuance of the good will and generous support accorded this edition.
The greatest care has been exercised in compiling this volume. Our labor has not been in vain, as this Directory shows 10,677 names in the alphabetical list of San Diego, an increase of 2,681 over the last issue. Coronado contains 727 names, 434 more than in the previous publication. National City has 604 names, showing an increase of 215. The total increase in the three cities is 3,330. The additional number of names secured has been caused principally by an increase in the population and also by more detail work on the part of the canvassers. It is customary when estimating the popu- lation of a city to multiply the number of names in the directory by 212. By so doing it gives San Diego a population of 26,692.
The County Directory list of names contains 4,245, giving a total of 16,253 names in this directory, exclusive of business classifica- tions, firms, descriptions and references of all kinds.
Accompanying this book is an indexed map of the city of San Diego, engraved expressly for the San Diego Directory Co.
We desire to tender our sincere thanks to our patrons and all who have rendered assistance by giving information for this work.
