Organized June, 1870. The first Grand Lodge was Instituted in January, 1878, the Order at that time comprising three lodges with a membership of 288. On January 1, 1897, there were nineteen lodges in the State with a membership of 2,615. There are seven lodges in San Francisco, with 1,186 members; also oue ladies' lodge with 211 members.
