AMERICAN LEGION OF HONOR.


Organized in 1878, and incorporated under the laws of Massachusetts, and is under the supervision of the insurance laws of the various States. Its spe- cial object is to give aid and protection to members families or other beneficiaries that may come under its laws, upon the assessment plan, in sums from $500 to $3.000, payable at death; It has a guaran- teed fund of 8550,000, which is annually increasing to insure full payment of death claims. It has twelve hundred Councils throughout the United States and Canada, with a membership of 20,000. It disburses, annually, nearly 83,000,000 in payment of death claims, having disbursed (since its organ- Ization) about $40.000.000. The organization is man- aged by a Supreme Council, with headquarters at Boston, Massachusetts.


The Grand Council of California was instituted August 8, 1881, and meets biennially on the first Tuesday of May. Grand Secretary's office, 105 St. Ann's Building, 6 Eddy street, San Francisco.


There are fifty-five subordinate Councils under the jurisdiction of the Grand Council, twelve of which are located in San Francisco.

ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS.


Subsidiary High Court of the Pacific Coast was in- stituted November 6, 1889, in San Francisco, forming a part of the Universal Order known as the Ancient Order of Foresters Friendly Society. The High Court of the World is located in Chester, England, for the present year. There are 183 Courts in this State, one Juvenile Court and several companies of the Uniform Rank.

FORESTERS OF AMERICA.


The objects of this order re to unite fraternally all white males of good character, between the ages of eighteen and fifty years,-tb ald its sick members. bury its dead, give relief to their widows and or- phans, to find employment for the unemployed members, and all other benevolent purposes. There are one hundred and fifty Courts in the State, also branches known as Knights of Sherwood Forest, and the Companions of the Forest.


The Supreme body of the order is known as the Su- preme Court, and was organized in Minneapolis on August 15, 1889, having on that day seceded from the Ancient Order of Foresters in England. The Su- preme Court meets biennially. Next meeting at Detroit, Michigan,
