ART ASSOCIATION. THE SAN FRANCISCO (Mark Hopkins Institute of Art) .- Corner of California and Mason streets. Organized March, 1871. Objects-The promotion and encouragement of painting, sculpture and the allied fine arts in the community, and the main- tenance of a school in connection therewith. Incorporated July, 1889. Affiliated with the University of California February, 1893, and at the same time entered into possession of the property it now occupies under the terms of an agreement whereby the owner, Mr. Edward F. Searles. deeded the building and grounds to the Regents of the University for the exclusive uses and purposes of instruction in and illustration of the fine arts, music and literature, or any of them, including the maintenance of galleries and reading rooms, and other suitable means of such instruction and illustration, under the title of "The Mark Hopkins Institute of Art." A collec- tion of pictures and other works of art are on permanent exhibition, while special exhibitions are held at frequent intervals. Meets fourth Tuesday in each month.
