LOS ANGELES FIRE DEPARTMENT 217 S Hill


The paid fire department of the city of Los Angeles was organized February 1, 1886. It now consists of 650 paid firemen, 27 steam fire engines and 8 auto pumping engines in service; and three Seagrave's aerial trucks, 4 horse drawn city service trucks, 5 motor driven trucks, 2 chemical engines in reserve, and 22 horse drawn combination hose and chemical engines and 17 auto combination chemical hose wagons. In connection with the department is a fire alarm telegraph with 300 miles of wire and 418 automatic boxes. There are also 5216 hydrants in use.
