An ordinance was adopted in August changing the names of certain streets in Mannasse & Schiller's addition, the addition of the Land & Town Co. and Choate's addition, as follows : The name of E street av- changed to Everett avenne: F to Franklin avenue; G to Grant was enne ; H to Harrison avenue : I to Inter-Ocean avenue ; K to Kearney avenne; L to Logan avenue ; M to Milton avenue ; O to Oliver avenue ; P to Pierce avenne, and R to Railroad avenue. The names of the num - bered streets from Nineteenth to Twenty.eighth were changed to South Nineteenth, South Twentieth, etc. In Reed & Daley's and Choate's ad- ditions the following streets were changed : O to Webster avenue ; Pto Clay aveme ; Q to Sargent avenue ; R to Woolman avenue; S to Valle avenne ; T to Martin avenue, and U' to Greeley avenue.


In most of that part of the city south of N street and east of Eighteenth to Thirty-second the streets run northwest and southeast, and south west and northeast. Beginning at N street the avenues running northwest and southeast are Everett, Franklin, Grant, Harrison, Inter-Ocean, Kearney, Julian, Logan, Milton, Olive, Pierce, Railroad. And those

Houses are numbered from west to east and from south to north. On the streets running from west to east there are 48 numbers to each block, or one number for every eight and one-third feet. Commencing on the west end of D street the first number on D street is 200, which is at the northeast cor of Atlantic. The last number in that block would be 248, at the northwest cor of D and Atlantic, and at the northeast cor of D and California the first number is 300. etc. On the streets running from south to north there are 72 numbers to each block.


The numbers at the street crossings on the streets running from east to west are at Atlantic 200, California 300, Arctic 400. India 500. Colum- bia 600, State 700, Union 800, Front 900, First 1000, Second 1100, Third 1200, Fourth 1300, Fifth 1400. Sixth 1500, Seventh 1600, Eighth 1700. Ninth 1800, Tenth 1900, Eleventh 2000. CITY FIRE ALARM.


The fire alarm consists of one bell located on a tower on the east side of Fifth between Cand D streets. The city is divided into six fire alarm districts. The first district is that portion of the city west of Fifth and south of H streets; Second District, east of Fifth and south of H streets ; Third District, west of Fifth between H and D streets; Fourth District, east of Fifth between H and D streets; Fifth District, west of Fifth from D north ; Sixth District, east of Fifth from D north.


HOW TO GIVE AN ALARM.


Ring the bell rapidly to give the general alarm, then toll the bell the same number of times as the number of the district in which the fire is located, (example, toll the bell four times to indicate the fourth district, etc.) then ring rapidly and repeat the number, and so on.


MEMBERSHIP.


San Diego, No. 1. 36 active members ; Coronado, No. 2, 37 active men- bers; Howard Hook and Ladder, No. 3. 44 active members. Total, 117. The department apparatus consists of one third-class La France steam fire-engine ; two four-wheel hose carts; one two- wheel hose cart; one hook and ladder truck; 1,750 feet of good hose. The number of hy- drants to date is about 65.
