STREET AND AVENUE GUIDE.

EXPLANATION.

By the decimal system of numbering now adopted one hundred numbers are assigned to each square, giving one number to each twelve and one-half feet, or two numbers to each lot of twenty-five feet be- ginning at the Platte river on the west, increasing northeasterly on Larimer and all streets running par- allel.

Streets crossing Larimer are numbered from Broadway increasing northwesterly. On Broadway and on streets running parallel the numbers increase northward, beginning with 100 at First avenue, (formerly Lake avenue). Streets and avenues crossing Broadway are numbered east and west from said street, adding the letter W. to that part of the street or avenue west of Broadway, as follows: Twelfth avenue W. would apply to that part of Twelfth avenue west of Broadway.

For convenience in locating the streets and avenues of the city, we have used the most prominent ones and the Platte river as a commencement or dividing point. For instance, Broadway, Downing and Colfax avenues, Pierrepont street and the Platte river in East Denver, and the Boulevard, Gallup, Highland, Fairview and Ashland avenues in the northwest.
