The First National Bank

OF TUCUMCARI The Oldest and Largest Bank in Quay County. CAPITAL AND SURPLUS $130,000.00

TUCUMCARI, N. M.

TUCUMCARI.

County seat of Quay county, and division point on the Rock INland, El Paso & Southwestern, Tucumcari & Memphis, and Dawson Branch of the El Paso & Southwestern. The shops of the El Paso & Southwestern are located here. The monthly payroll is approxi- mately $70,000. The city derives its name from a mountain five miles from the city. This mountain was named by the Indian Chief Geronimo, "Tucumcari" with the Indian meaning of Mother Breast, so named because of its shape. The surrounding country is occupied by cattle men and farmers. Although a young city it has $110,000 invested in school buildings and equipment and many monuments in the usual building lines, two fine bank buildings, telephones, elegant factory and other public improvements. Has a new opera house costing $50,000. It lies in the dry farming belt and although farming is successful, the large portion of the country people devote their time to cattle raising. The United States Land Office and the Governmental Experimental farm are also located here. It has 30 miles of cement walks and crossings. Mild climate. Population 4.000. Altitude 4.194 feet. For any further information write the Chamber of Commerce.
