PREFATORY
E HEREWITH submit our ninth volume of the Jack- sonville City Directory. A careful canvass of the city proper, North, East, West and South Jacksonville, the various additions to the city and contiguous territory has been made, and we are confident that a degree of accuracy heretofore unattained has been reached.
In calculating the population of a city on the basis of the number of names contained in the Directory, the lowest multiple used in any city is 21/2. This edition contains 25,517 names, exclusive of business firms, churches, schools, buildings, etc., thus indicating a population for Jacksonville and suburbs of 62,793.
We wish to extend our thanks to the business men and public in general for the assistance rendered our canvassers and nametakers, and to renew our promise to make each succeeding issue of the work more worthy of their com- mendation and patronage.
Respectfully,
THE PUBLISHERS.
