The Atlanta paid Fire De- partment was organized July 1, 1882 ; now has a chief engineer, one fire inspector, ten foremen, one superintendent of fire alarm, three engineers, one secretary, ninety-one men, three steamers, eight two horse hose wagons, two hook and ladder trucks in service, twenty-nine horses and 17,500 feet of hose, one double tank two-horse chemical engine. The annual expense in connec- tion with fire alarm is about $100,000.
