THE BUILDING AND LOAN ASSOCIATION IS THE ROAD TO WEALTH.
There is no royal road to wealth for the majority of mankind.
To labor and to save is a maxim universally conceded to that true policy. It is necessary to labor with diligence, live with frugality and save with judg- ment in order that men with moderate incomes may in due time become inde- pendent of labor as absolutely necessary to supply the wants of life.
Having so labored, lived and saved, how shall the savings be invested and cared for?| They must be secured for the present days, weeks, months and
years of life, and to lose theni is to jeopardize the'well being of family dearer to the properly constituted man than the comforts of his own life; they must earn and return gains and profits for the owner, else the day of Indepen- dence is long deferred. We point to the Building and Loan Association, the surest . and safest form of investment as known for many reasons. :
It is perfectly Democratic. Every member of any Association under the Building and Loan System is admitted to a full, free and constant insight of its workings and management. It incurs no'liabilities beyond its own members and is therefore safe.
It is purely mutual. Its benefits, are distributed equitably hmong all its members, to each his portion of the profits and gains.
It is I beral in its returns. There is no preferred class to absorb the profits; no large sinking fund to create; capitalists cannot come in and overpower the weaker members.
It affords protection to the family by enabling its member to secure homes, paid for in a great measure by money that would otherwise be paid for rent. In short, it is a system ('of the people, for the people and by the people."
It is in the interest of better citizenship; it encourages economy; teaches ! thrift; fosters forethought and stability. The principles involved have been tested; there are hundreds of Building and Loan Associations throughout the country operating under the Building and Loan System, many of which differ. somewhat in plan; thousands of happy homes have been reared and main" tained through the aid and opportunities. offered
by such institutions.

The Tibbles Sewing Machine is the only machine everiproduced in which the manufacturers prove their implicit confidence in its simplicity, ease of manage- ment, and superior qualities, by sending it out to their customers without an instruction book. Any one can successfully . operate "The Tibbles" without trouble or loss of time.
The Ne_dle is positively self-setting, which renders it impossible to set it in correctly. This is a new invention, and is a great improvement over any ma- chine heretofore made .-
The new shuttle is self-threading and cannot be threadel inaccurately, and'its tension is governed in the ordinary way, except that it is not necessary in chang. . ing the tension to remove it from the cradle.
Our new shuttle carrier is so constructed as to preclude the possibility of the shuttle jumping from its place while in rapid motion, with the shuttle-race open, `thus avoiding the liability of permanent injury to the machine and danger to the .. operator, which has proven so objectionable to all sewing machines.
The work may be fed to or from the operator at will without making any change in the mechanical devices; thus enabling the operator to fasten ends or make double seams without turning the material, as-must be done with all other machines.
Another distinct feature of "The Tibbles" is that the hand-wheel may be ro- tated in either direction and the sewing proceed continuously from the operator, thuis enabling every one to start the machine as they have been accustomed.
For a time people demanded a cheap sewing machine, and manufacturers, who were quick to comprehend their customers' demands, used all diligence and en -! ergy to produce them at the lowest possibl : price, and under the heavy strain of low prices, convict labor has been brough , into service in the manufacture of sewing machines, to supply those who demand them at low prices. This com- pany, however, adopted as their motto, "Ast Optimus aut Nihil," which being translated reads, "The best or nothing;" and experience teaches us that the ma- jority of ladies. after trying the cheap sewing machine, have concluded co pay a fair price jand get "the best or nothing.". We therefore employ the best mechan- ical skill, and hesitate at no expense that can improve the quality of workman- ship of "The Tibbles."
