COURTS.
United States Court of the South- ern District of Iowa-The United States is divided into nine judicial circuits, in each of which a circuit court is held for each district within each " circuit. The act of congress approved April 10, 1869, provides as follows: "The circuit court in each circuit shall be held by the justice of the supreme court alloted to the cir- cuit, or by the district judge of the district sitting alone, or by the jus- tice of the supreme court and circuit judge sitting together, in which case the justice of the supreme court shall preside, or in the absence of either of them, by the other ( who shall pre- side) and the district judge.
The state of Iowa is divided into two judicial districts. The courts for the southern district are held in dis- trict court rooms U. S. government building at Des Moines second Tues- day in May and third Tuesday in No- vember! At Council Bluffs, second Tuesday in March and third Tuesday in September. At Keokuk second Tuesday in April and third Tuesday in October. At Creston fourth Tues- day in March and third Tuesday in November. At Davenport, fourth Tuesday in April and first Tuesday in October. At Ottumwa first Monday after fourth Tuesday in March and first Monday after third Tuesday in October. Both districts are attached to the Eighth judicial circuit, which comprises the states ; of Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Colorado, Arkansas, Kansas, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Utah, . and New Mexico.
Justice David J. Brewer has been alloted to the Eighth judicial circuit, and Hon. Wm. C. Hook, Hon. Walter H. Sanborn, Hon. Willis Vandevanter are circuit judges of said court. The courts for the southern districts are organized as follows:
