Precinct Elections. The election of 1:39 for precinct No. + was held at T. J. Hurd's house. when fifty-five voters were present. The August elections for justice of the peace resulted in the choice of Silas Richards. Israel Cummins was elected constable. The election of 1-39 for district No. 2 was held at JJames Holgate's house. Forty-four votes were recorded for county officers. cinet No. 5. at the house of Wm. H. Henderson, resulted in the choice of Wm. Mahoney and Joseph Perry, justices, and David Gwinn, con- stable. In September, David Gwinn, or Gwire, was elected justice. In precinct No. 1, fifty-three voters were of record. Wmn. Parks and James Buswell received equal votes for justice, and Nicholas Sturm was elected constable. In September, Wmn. Parks was elected over Buswell by six votes.


County Elections .- The first general election after organization was held August 5, 1839. For some months prior to election day the county was kept at fever heat not only by the democrats and whigs, as distinet parties, but by sectional and personal influences within each party.
