THIRTY-THIRD REGIMENT.I. V. I.


The Thirty-third Infantry was organized at Camp Butler, 111. September, 1861, by Col. Chas. E. Hovey. It participated in the following battles: Cache Alton Plant, Port Gibson, Champion Hills, Black River Bridge, and sieges of JJackson and Vicksburg, captures of Fort Esperanga and Spanish Fort, It was almost constantly on the march, and was in many skirmishes.

SEVENTEENTH REGIMENT I. V. I.


The Seventeenth Infantry was mustered into U. S. Service in Peoria, Ill. May 24, 1861. Its first duty was in Missouri, pursuing Jeff Thompson and other like bands. It was in the following battles: Greenfield, Fort Henry and Fort Donaldson, Pittsburg Landing, advance and evacuation of Corinth, luka, Hatchie, capture of Holly Springs, siege of Vicksburg, and many smaller ones, and long marches too numerous to here mention.

PART OF COMPANY D, 83d REGIMENT I. V. I. From Woodhull and vicinity.


The Eighty-third was organized at Monmouth, Ill, by Col. A. C. Harding, and mustered in, Aug. 21, 1862. It was in the battles of Fort Henry and Fort Donelson, and being on guard duty successfully resisted the attacks of bands of guerrillas many times. When Forrest and Wheeler with 8,000 men, attacked Fort Donel- son in Feby. 1863. 9 companies of the 83d, with Company C, 2d 111. Light Artillery, defeated them the rebels suffering a loss of 800.

The Forty-second Infantry was organized in Chicago, Inly 22, 1861. by Col. Wm. A. Webb. Was in the fol- lowing engagements: Island No. 10 (Col. Roberts with fifty men of Co. A, spiked six guns of the enemy on the night of April, 1), Farmington, siege of Corinth, Columbia, siege of Nasaville, Stone River (in which it lost 22 killed, 115 wounded, and 85 prisoners ), Chicamanga, Mission Ridge. Was in the engagements of the army on Atlanta campaign. Spring Hill, and Franklin, and battle of Nasliville. Mustered out Dec. 15, 1865. Jan. 10, 1866, received final pay and discharge

The One Hundred and Fifty-first Infantry was organized at Quincy, and mustered in Feb. 23, 1865. It was on duty in Tennessee and Georgia. At Kingston, Georgia, the 151st received the surrender of Gen. Warford with 10,400 rebels. It was mustered out Jany. 2, 1866.
