IMFORMATION GATHERED AT NETHARMONY LIBRARY
James Smith was in Gibson County by 1808-taken from Indiana Magazine of history Volume 21, 1925 ---- Vilkinson reference also made in same issue. County Seat Wars is given in Volume ten of Indiana Magyzine of History. Peter Cartwright appointed Junior Preacher in Indiana in 1805 --- Joseph Williams preacher with 165 members 1 colored. Volume 10-Indiana Magasine of History.
Also taken from Volume 10 Moses Ashworth. was a circuit rider in first Indiara Circuit in 1807. In 1808 Feter Cartwright organized a circuit at Busroe? In 1815 John Schrader and in 1816 Thomas Davis as riders. The Patoka circuit was founded in 1811 with Benjamin Edge as the Rider . In 1816 John Shrader served the Blue River Circuit.
In Volume 19 mention is made of a Rev. William V. Wartin who taught James Ackman Carnahan at Laviona, I"tiara. Rev. James Aciman Carnahan was the descendant of Scotch-Irish ancestors who came about 1740 tc Pennyslvania than on into Virgina nad 1790 into Kentucky, Nicholas County where James was born in 1802. His father later went to Davieses? County Indiana .
Volume 17 of Indiana Magazine of History gives the Jaquess and Shraler story . On page 26 is a letter written by John Shrader. He gives the following members in the autumn of 1815 at Joseyville-Amos Fing was the prescher and members were Jonathan Jaquess and his wife Robecca, and Katherine Pankin their daughter in las. Joining during the same fall were Rebecca and Amelia daughters of Jonathan Jaquess and 4. nu cale. John Shraler served as preacher in 1821. On December 12, 1919 Shraier preached at Hugl McGrary's cabin. In the same Volume also it tells of the Blue Grass Settlement in Vanderburg County having been made first in Posey County near Blairsville.
Still in Volume 17 tells the parentabe of John Shrader. His Father was John Jacob Von Shroader who was born in Germany and educated at Holdeloung John Jacob Von Shroaier came to America November 16, 1774 (may be 84) to escape military service. In Americanhe changed his name to John Shreder. He became a Methodist in New York City and went on to Balitmore where be married a Miss Volf. Old John Shrader was a musician of some taleut and write several songs. From Baltimore they went to Knoxville, Tear. Where John Jr. was born in 1795. John Shrader Jr. joined the church in 1810 and began to exhort in 1811-preach in 1812 and was admitted to to the Denn. Conference in 1814. He was ordained a decan by Bishop Asbury at & banon . Tennessee in 1814 and ordained an Aider by Bishop Roberts in 1818 at Olwells camp ground below Alten , Illinois. In 1814 he served the Green River Circuit in Ke tucky with 10 appointments for a total o 400 mites. He almost died in 1619 while serving The White River Circuit in Arkansas. He came back to the Patoka Circuit where he regained his health and married Permelia Jaquess. He entered the circuit again at the age of 65.

Taken from Sandford Cox's "Recollections of the early settlement on the Wabash" -- gives the Ewrys, and Kises in 1828 in Tippecanoe County. On page 46 gives the following located in near wafayette in 1828 Hilt, Knapper, Wolf, Gushwas, Gunkle, and near Dayton ( Tippecanoe County) in 1829 a James Wilkey. Between 1849 and 1854 600 people died of chclorea in Lafayette.

1838 mao of Posey County the copy made by E. Phillips lists just a few land owners in Northern Posey. these include in Harmony Section 27.1.2. Cornor _ Fitzegerald. In section 26 tue N.". comor Thomas 'wens, the N.E. cornor Ezekiel Kight, the N.W. cornor Thoras Cox and the S.E. cornor Jourdon Butler.
The 1840 map of Harmony is much the same as the 1850 except that in section 19, of Harmony are a V. Jolly and J. J. Price. In section 17 Eliakim Anderson and Elijah Anderson as owning land in the S. E. connor. Shirley has the N.b. corner and S.Stallings the S.W. cornor and Rogers the N.", corner.

Taken from Indiana mag. of History December 1944 pages 357-358 mentions a . Thomas Jordan and Ephraim as being in Vincences Township in 1798 and fined for refusing to be tax collectors . On page 361 issac White is mentioned in 1801 and also mentioned is a William Stovart. Fage 382 says that Spier Spencer had a 12 year old son with him at the Battle of Tippecanoe the child being unhurt.
The Schools of Indiana-published 1876 lists on page 56 a Tandy Baily Montgomery as being a school teacher in the 1820's in Gibson County and in 1860 recorder .

February 5,1359 -- School boy murder. Wesley Stallings stabbed and killed Franklin Stillwell. The quarrell overa love letter. The triil held before Duclos. Joseph Edson and Horace Pritchard were the lawyers. Stallings bound over to higher court on manslaughter charges with bond set at 1,000. Dr. E. A. Ccover testified as did Franklin Price, Robert Hanning, Mary ann Hungit, Ellen Stallings, Sarah Ann Stillwell, and John Stallings. The quarrel started at school over a love letter which Sam Carahan said his sister wrote. Mr. wilbur was teacher. ( this must have been either Stillwell or Pulitide school)

Her son George became sich on the 28 th day after his mother and died Dec. 23,1858 aged 19 yrs. Henry her son also became ill and died aged 15 yrs . 1861 -- John H.
