Takes pleasure in informing his friends and the public that he is to be found at his office, No. 8 East Washington street, from 8 A. M. to 6 P. M., prepared from his long experience in the practice of Dentistry, to insert Artificial Teeth on Gold, Silver or Platina, with his Improved Continuous Gums, which combine the following advantages :
WITHOUT TEETH.
WITH TEETH.
First .- Pure Platina has a specific gravity greater than pure gold, and is consequently more dense. Its resistance to acids is greater even than that of gold, and undergoes no change from the combined agency of air and moisture. It may also be exposed to the strongest heat of a Smith's forge without suffering either oxidation or fusion.
For Artificial Dentistry, it has no equal in the list of metals; being sufficiently strong to use without alloy, and not in the least acted upon by the fluids of the mouth. In fact, no other metal will resist the action of so powerful a heat as is required to fuse upon it the " Continuous Gum Work."'
Second .- There are no seams or crevices for the lodgment of food, to vitiate the saliva, or to infect the breath. The interstices are all filled with a silicious compound, which is so applied as to form an Artificial Gum; this is fused at a high heat, which unites the Teeth firmly to each other, and to the plate upon which they are set, thus imparting great strength and life-like appearance to the denture.
Third-The Teeth for this style of work are made perfectly natural in form and shade, and when properly set with the Artificial Gum, as above, exhibits that harmony with the other features, which characterize the natural organs.
Fourth .- The original form and expression of the mouth and face can be restored. (See cuts.) This is done by having the denture so con- structed as to bring out the sunken portions and sustain them in their proper position ; this is an important feature in this style of work, to which he devotes particular attention. Fifth .- A clear and distinct articulation of speech is restored. This is effected by having the inside of the teeth and artificial gum of a natu- ral form, to which the tongue is readily adapted; this prevents the hiss- ing or muffled sounds so often observed in speaking or singing, in per- sons wearing artificial teeth.
Sixth .- Heretofore they have been somewhat objectionable on account of their weight, and the gum being formed so thick on the inside as to make them cumbersome. By a series of experiments he has succeeded in entirely removing these objections.
