COURTS.


The United States is divided into nine Judi- cial Circuits, in each of which a Circuit Court is held for each district within each circuit. The act of Congress approved April 10, 1869, provides as follows: "The Circuit Court in each district shall be held by the Justice of the Supreme Court al- lotted to the Circuit, or by the Circuit Judge of the Circuit, or by the District Judge of the District, sitting alone, or by the Justice of the Supreme Court and Cir- cuit Judge sitting together, in which case the Justice of the Supreme Court shall preside, or in the absence of either of them, by the other (who shall preside), and the District Judge." The State of In- diaina comprises one Judicial District. The courts of the District are held in Indian- apolis,


New Albany, Evansville, Fort Wayne and Hammond. The district is at- tached to the Seventh Judicial Circuit, which comprises the States of Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.
