Advertised Letters-All letters remaining in the office are ad- vertised on Monday of each week. If not claimed in two weeks thereafter, they are forwarded to the dead letter office at Washington.


INFORMATION ABOUT MAIL MATTERS DOMESTIC POSTAGE RATES.


First Class-Letters, all written matter and all matters sealed or fastened to preclude examination, 2 cents each ounce of fraction.


- Second Class-Newspapers and periodicals sent by publishers or news agents, 1 cent each pound or fraction. When sent by others, 1 cent for every four ounces or fraction.


Third Class-Printed matter,. books, cromos, engravings, music, photographs, all productions on paper, except hand writing and type- writing, unsealed, I cent each two ounces or fraction, Limit of weight . four pounds, except for single books.


Fourth Class-All matter not included in above, unsealed, 1 cent for each ounce or fraction. Limit of weight four pounds.


A package whether sealed or unsealed, containing writing, subject _ it to postage at 2 cents per ounce.


UNMAILABLE MATTER


Animals, reptiles, alive or dead, (not stuffed), insects, except a . · queen bee when safely secured, are excluded from the' mails .. Also liquors, poisons, explosives, or inflamable articles, no matter how care- fully wrapped are excluded.


REGISTERED LETTERS


Letters and valuable packages may be registered to any post office in the United States, Canada and our new possessions, on the pay- ment of a fee of 8 cents and regular postage.

FOREIGN RATES OF POSTAGE. CANADAIN POSTAGE.


Letters and newspaper postage to Canada, same as in the United States. Merchandise by mail to Canada must not exceed eight ounces in weight, and.the postage is ten cents whether the package weighs one ounce or eight ounces.

Samples of merchandise for dispatch in mails in foreign countries are restricted to bona fide trade samples or specimens having no salable or commercial value in excess of that actually necessary for their tise as samples or specimens. Goods sent for sale in execution of an order, or as gifts, however small the quantity may be, are not admissable at sample rates and conditions.


SPECIAL DELIVERY SYSTEM 1.


.Was introduced October 1, 1885, and is now extended to all post offices in the United States, and to all classes of mail matter. Accordingly every article of mailable matter to which a ten cent special delivery stamp is affixed, in addition to the postage required by law, will, upon its arrival by mail, have immediate delivery by a special messenger within the carrier's limits of any free delivery postoffice, or within one mile of any other postoffice, in the United States, to which it may be addressed. A letter bearing a special delivery stamp, together with the regular postage, may be mailed at any postoffice. A special de- 'livery stamp costs 10 cents.
