INDIANA CENTRAL RAILWAY!
The Indiana Central Railway proper, is 7216 miles long, extending from Indianapolis to the State line, dividing Indiana and Ohio near New Paris, in the latter State, and connecting at the State line with the Dayton and Western Railrond, extending to Dayton, Ohio, making the distance between Indianap- olis and Dayton 108 miles. The line is nearly a straight one, having less than four miles of curvature in Indiana, and runs nearly east and west, and nearly throughout its whole length within fifty rods of the old National Road, and through the very best improved portion of the State, in the counties of Marion, Hancock, Henry and Wayne, and at one place the line runa for a dis- tance of about six miles on theline dividing the counties of Rush on one side, and Hancock and Henry on the other.
At Richmond the line connects with the Cincinnati, Hamilton, Eaton and Richmond Railroad, affording an outlet to Cincinnati through an old settled, - highly improved, and among the most fertile valleys in Ohio.
The lines through to Dayton and Cincinnati are very substantially construct- ed, well ballasted, smooth and comfortable to travel over, and the succession of broad fertile fields, neat farm houses, and other rural improvements, pros- perous towns and cities, with large manufacturing establishments, render this route one of the most attractive of any in the State, The through business in passengers and freight is large and inerensing; and the local business, owing to the fertility of the soil, high state of improvement, and dense rural, vil- lage and city population, is the best in the State.
