STREETS AND AVENUES

The Street Directory is an alphabetical arrangement of the names of the streets and avenues of the city. By the decimal system of num- bering houses, one hundred numbers are allotted to each square. By this system even numbers are invariably found on the north and west side of streets and odd numbers on the south and east side. South street, running east and west, divides the city north and south. The following classification and arrangement of streets forms a diagram of each street, giving its starting point, intersections and numbers, which enables a person to tell between what streets a certain num- ber is located; as, for instance, wishing to know at what part of N Ninth street No. 920 comes, turn to N Ninth street and you find 900, the intersecting street is Salem street and 1000, the following intersecting one is Tippecanoe street, showing therefore, that the place you wish to find is between Salem and Tippecanoe.
